Haha, sorry to jump right in with my first post in the Lane 1 forum pissing people off, but I just couldn't help it.
I have always wanted to try a Saw but never have, but I just bought the Carbide + that Warren300 had on Ebay, so I finally get my chance!
What's to expect out of the C+? Not many reviews on here, but all were positive. I am looking for it to be my "heavier" oil ball. Not flood, but medium heavy I guess. I dropped to 14lbs not too long ago, so I am still piecing my arsenal together, but if the C+ works like I think it will, lineup should be
Resurgence - Flood
Carbide + - Med Heavy
Hei$t - Med - Med Light
High Rev - Light

So far, the kool-aid tastes pretty good to me,
. I just recently got into a 14 1/2 lb blueberry c2 ( Same weightblock as the c+ I believe ) and have been well pleased with the results.
The cover on the c+ should be a bit stronger than my blueberry, but the weightblock lets me play several different hand positions with no loss of carry or continuation.
Our shot here is med/hvy, 37ft buffed to 42. The blueberry is drilled stacked with the pin at a 4:30 position to the ring finger and cg on midline, polished with 3M Finesse over an unknown surface grit.
I have been able to use it for all four games of our summer mens trio league, averaging right at 230 with it.
Hope your c+ cover is a good matchup with the c2 weightblock for you. If so, your going to have fun with this one.

Cool man, thanks. Yeah I was just reading about your Blueberry. I am really excited to throw this thing.
In other news, I think it's funny that there have been 62 views to this thread (probably due to my title)
but sad that there's only one response! C'mon Sawheads! give me some input on this piece!

i had the c+
very good ball
loves oil and very rolly. hits very hard and is predictable

hey big, what happened to the Complete NV u had?

Im so glad people are brainwashed to thinking that if they buy a new ball they will carry everything. And its even funnier when im carrying with my 15 year old ball and they're going flat ten.
-
I got me a C+ for the very same reason... controllable smooth roll with good oil eater capabilities but not too strong...
Just a word of warning.
I had a C+ before and the cover is very soft... so keep an eye out for oil death and surface maintenance.
Haven't got mine drilled yet but I am sure this ball will be fun

The C+ was the first Lane #1 ball I had a problem with. It was grossly mismarked and flared over the fingers with three different layouts. It did not flare much at all, and the bowtie was well below where it should have been with all three layouts. As for oil...mine did not like it one bit. Needless to say, that ball collected dust after trying it on a few different patterns in a few different houses.

My Carbibe plus still sits also. I started out years ago with the Carbide solid and Carbide pearl and bought a lot of Lane 1 equipment since, but I hd no luck with the C+. Thought about pulling it out again to see if it were me or the ball, but no interest in putting it in my bag yet.

I actually liked the C+. The ball was very even and with a strong arc. For me, it was very controllable.

How was it drilled? and what is your pap? Carry was a problem for me.

I'm going to help my friend OddBalls out a little bit here:
quote:

Good particle ball. Very rolly and predictable
I also have a C+, and I agree with his assessment (although miracles sometimes do happen
) The main thing is that it is very predictable -- a very good medium to heavy/medium piece. Depending on how you drill it, it can be rolly or more skip/snap. I went with a higher pin label drill (no x-hole needed) and I get length with good backend.
quote:
You really don't believe the 20% carry and increase in average do you??
Well, for those of us who have actually experienced increased consistency and pin fall using Lane#1, there is reason to believe. If you think about, a ball line that provides consistency and predictability across their products should improve your game if you use that to your advantage.
Regardless, enjoy the C+. It's one of the better Lane#1 balls that didn't get a lot of press.

I pulled mine out the last 4 weeks of league and averaged about 210 with it. Got mine label drilled, does track very high sometimes it would touch the middle finger, however, this ball doesn't think about leaving a 10 pin. average 199 @ state on usbc regional pattern. Very controllable, great carry, and i recommend. Be sure to get your driller to find the CG on this ball there has been alot of these mismarked.

in fact it was bashed as it was promoted as a oiler... and didn't fullfill the "advertised" expectations
+ the coverstock is a bit finicky when it comes to keeping it clean... as all strong balls do! So nothing to complain.
Similar things havce happened with the NM as I remember and many people complained... now they complain about the ball being discontinued
whatever... the C+ is offering a versatile core with a good coverstock.. I will see how my short pin C+ will come out after the drilling... will get a "roller" I am sure.

Grayson: Like much of the 'bashing' of Lane#1 products, it's usually by posters who have general bowling challenges still to overcome. You see it across the board, and most recently with the BuzzBomb, which is probably the most phrased heavy oiler (by knowledgeable professional independent testers) on the market today.
As far as the C+, look at Absolutebowling's comments on the ball:
quote:
I've used it on a number of patterns, and its actually an extremely impressive piece. Its versatility and ability to play different lines is awesome! Carry is second to none, and its smooth even ROLL, with strong grab on the back reminds me alot of what I have seen with the c300 action max, but the C+ seems to have more continuation. It handles medium heavy to heavy very well, but can be used with good speed on mediums playing the swinging shot. Forget dry...
And this from someone who's had several emotional meltdowns and hates Lane#1 overall!!
Keep the basher comments in perspective.

Steven,
No offense meant but who are all these independant testers? Everything I look at shows the heavy oiler as the Resurgence or Fury and now the Dimension and Cell look like they are in that Category as well.
-
Even Lane 1 came out and said the Buzzbomb didn't handle the heavy oil it claimed it would, or did it live up to the hook potential it promised. Now that I can live with that, I have had great success with my second Buzzbomb.

Nic: I would love to see reference to Lane#1 making those statements. Please do show.
mmcfarland300: A search back to the beginning of this year will show input from independent testers on the BuzzBomb. The list includes allstarbowling.com, AverageJoesProShop.com, BuddiesProShop.com, and Joe Cerar Jr. from Bowler's Journal International (BJI).
Some highlights:
allstarbowling.com -- We have found that this ball DEFINATELY is in need of oil volume! When starting out with a fresh pattern this ball will be quite a monster. Definately gets into a heavy mid lane read and follows with a strong,
aggressive move to the pocket.
Similar Ball Comparisons:
Attitude Shift [Very simliar motions with same layout]
Fury [Not as angular in out of box, dull finish]
Resurgence [Very similiar, though Resurgence seems not to be as angular]
----------
AverageJoesProShop.com: Hello again, just wanted to let everyone know that the new videos for the Lane #1 Buzz Bomb are available on our website. We were so impressed with this ball we decided to do two videos to show its versatility.
----------
BuddiesProShop.com: All the claims from the (Lane#1) ad were confirmed when I threw this ball. This is definitely the most hook of any Buzzsaw I've thrown. In box finish, you definitely need oil in the front part of the lane. You can count the number of balls that are able to handle the swamp in the middle of our house shot on one hand, and this is definitely one of them.
----------
I guess these testers didn't get Nicanor's memo about the BuzzBomb failing to live up to expectations. That's probably a good thing because we got to read what the Buzzbomb is actually capable of.

Wow 302efi, I guess that means all proshop reviews (regardless of company) should be tossed out the window because they're evil and biased.
Yea right....None of these proshops have any affiliation with Lane#1 and have no incentive to lie or embellish. In fact, if their only interest was in pushing inventory, they'd probably spend their time testing and reviewing cheaper equipment that will sell in greater volume and bring more cash into the register. So you're saying they're financially stupid in addition to being sleazy? Very nice.
If you want to come out and directly call these testers dishonest, man-up and come out and do so.
-
BTM reviewed it just the same and I don't think they have some secret agenda.

Yes, they're companies that sell balls, but none have any business affiliation with Lane#1. I specifically left off the list Beans, Doug Sterner, etc. to avoid responses like yours.
According to your logic, all proshop reviews (regardless of company) are biased to sell equipment and should be tossed out the window. However, if all these shops were interested in is pushing inventory, they'd focus on pimping lower priced equipment that will sell in greater volume -- not a BuzzBomb.
If you really believe these guys are bogus and dishonest, maybe you should just come out and call them on it.

Steven in the comments you listed no where in there does it say that it is stronger or has more hook potential just that it is different be it more angular or more arcing. I am not saying it is a bad ball, just thought your statement saying it is praised as the most heavy oiler ball on the market was a little over the top.
-
quote:
Steven in the comments you listed no where in there does it say that it is stronger or has more hook potential just that it is different be it more angular or more arcing.
mmcfarland300: Please re-read allstarbowling.com's assessment:
quote:
Similar Ball Comparisons:
Attitude Shift [Very similar motions with same layout]
Fury [Not as angular in out of box, dull finish]
Resurgence [Very similar, though Resurgence seems not to be as angular]
It's saying that neither the Fury nor the Resurgence are as angular on the heavier oil conditions as the BuzzBomb. Especially in the case of the Resurgence, that is saying a lot. So at least this one reviewer is saying the BuzzBomb is a very competent (and more angular) heavy oil ball in relation to it's major competitors.
Further, BuddiesProShop says "You can count the number of balls that are able to handle the swamp in the middle of our house shot on one hand, and this is definitely one of them." They don't say what the other balls are, but the implication is clear with respect to the heavy oil capabilities of the BuzzBomb.
I've provided some fairly detailed backup. I'm not sure exactly what else you're looking for here. All the oiler mentioned (except the Fury) are good balls that most bowlers should be happy with. The BuzzBomb just gives a little more angularity that many bowlers would find to be of value.

Again I'm not saying it isn't a valuable ball I'm saying that you using the phrase "praised as the best oiler" is over the top. In todays industry you can not say any one ball is the best every ball even heavy oil balls will fit people differently. There are too many variations in ones game that can effect overall hooking motion and it is imo irresponsible to say the biggest ball on the market is X. I can personally tell you that when using the Buzzbomb it has been weaker than both The Fury and the Resurgence.
-
mmcfarland300: I actually said the following:
quote:
the BuzzBomb, which is probably the most phrased heavy oiler (by knowledgeable professional independent testers) on the market today.
Saying the BuzzBomb is 'probably the most phrased heavy oiler' is not me saying it's the best heavy oiler. It's simply a statement saying the BuzzBomb has probably generated more positive press from knowledgeable independent reviewers than it's current competition. I've provided backup to support that assertion. If you disagree and want to dig up evidence to the contrary, please do.
I also said earlier that the other oilers I referenced are very good pieces and should do the job for most bowlers. If you want to read more into my comments than what I've stated, maybe you have a different agenda you'd like to go into further.

No agendas I just think that there are those out there that overstate a balls ability because of a manufacturer. Lane 1 is notorious for overstating there equipment, how many PBA members do you see throwing Lane 1? Why is that?
-
Steven,
Are you saying that the Buzzbomb lived up to its orginal hype of being the most hooking ball ever and an oil monster? After Rictchie backed off on that statement, many more Buzzbomb bolwers were happier with their Buzzbombs. There was way too much hype on the Buzzbomb when it first cme out. One of the reasons tht Ricthie took so many back in the beginning. Again, not slamming the Buzzbomb, I still throw one, but there was way too much hype.

I like my C+ alot. The Buzzbomb was a dud, until I polished it. I actually didn't see enough oil and the ball would die because it would burn up. Once I matched the surface with the condition I was bowling on, the ball was a beast. I still use it.
-
My C+ remains on of my favorite balls to date, but I don't get to use it very much anymore because the house I bowl at has been flooding the lanes with out lately and the C+ just isn't strong enough but my BuzzBomb sure gets the job done.

Mini-update. Got the ball in the mail, went to throw it on my lunch break. Span doesnt fit me at all, thumbhole too big, etc. Threw it anyway.
All I have to say is Holy Crap. This thing hooks early and hard! I am a low speed stroker with low revs and usually play the 10-5 down and in area...
But there was no way that was happening with the C+. First ball I threw that way down the 5 just barely chopped the 7 off!!!
Granted I was throwing even slower than usual due to the poor fit of the ball, but then again I couldnt stay behind and under it either, so I think it will be similar when I can put a few more revs on it.
Anyway by the end of the game I was standing farther left than I have ever stood in my life (all the way!) lofting it half way to the arrows at about 18, out to about 8, turn the corner and KERBOOOOOM!!!
I am still sort of shocked as I sit here typing it. I can't really imagine what it will do when it fits me and gets a resurface. Geez.

Just got mine drilled.... and guess what... my driller did the impossible... he managed to position the pin (1" pin!) rather high in a stronger position with keeping finger and sideweight positive while getting 0 on topweight! HA!
Haven't thrown it yet as I need to do all the thumbhole cosmetics first (I am a bit... BAH! I AM A LOT FINICKY about the thumbhole - I admit it! and that needs special care
)
The ball has a slight polish by hand to give it a tad more lenght... but I will see more as soon as I threw it.

first impressions:
Layout:
Here's the picture:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/99/4919499/400_3730336132616265.jpg
bigger: http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/99/4919499/1280_3730336132616265.jpg
Lane Condition:
Modified House shot 38 ft broader and more oil than med... almost heavy with the high temperature and moisture in the air.. very slick lanes
Perfect line for my Machine to score:
standing 20 ... aiming 10 (2nd arrow) out almost down and in and the Machine goes down and almost snaps into the pocket as the oil is really too much for the Machine to read the midlane...
so... the Carbide+ was ideal! This is the condition I wanted the ball to work on.
standing 25
target 10
see the breakpoint
Rolling characteristics:
very strong midlane read!
this baby holds the lane and goes down smooth
then it makes a strong movement towards the pocket
personal impression:
the Carbide+ with this layout for me means two things:
If I don't rev it it will still make it's move but is rather weak then.... BUT: carries like crazy! get it to the pocket and it will smash em down! I have not seen this with my Machine the whole 10 games I played.
miss... and the Carbide+ won't really make it.
I was told the Carbide+ is not the oiler L#1 promoted it to be but a very strong ball for med-heavy and that is true
Personal problems:
I can't rev it really... the thumb seems to be to tight right now...
This was very frustrating seeing my MAchine go down with 350+ revs and make a jump on the backend when the C+ was goin down so lazy... well this means for me I start playing slow... which means the ball becomes o/u
I had sanding paper with me and opened the thumb but that is not enough... I need a bevel knife.
But each "reved" shot (with an extensive use of powder) in the pocket carried! EVERY SINGLE ONE! light... brooklyn... I had either strikes or missed pockets and then nasty splits.
Compared to the Machine (my stronges so far) this ball is by far not so jumpy on the backend but needs more oil to work. I can play it in the drier zone of the lane but why should I? I have a pearl particle right in the bag
I don'T want to rate the ball already cause I had some troubles today with it but also some enlightened moments. Normaly I need some time to figure out how to use a ball and so it will be with the C+.
Just that I am not the guy taking a new drilled ball and shooting high scores... that was never the case. But after some time I either fall in love... or hate it.
Let's see how the C+ does
anything forgot.... AH yes...
the coverstock is so soft I can see trackmarks already after 10 games...I knew this from my first one and I hope the coverstock will hold longer than I fear... I will resurface it now and then but I like the raction I get right now.. with the oob + slightly polish.
any idea how to keep it other than getting a abralon pad cause the grey scothcbright are too low grit.
well... read more later cause this needs some thumb adjustments and more testing.
