What would you think if.....
« on: November 26, 2010, 03:08:23 PM »
Richie was to use the XXXL core and wrap it with the coverstock from the Creature Pearl or Missing Link???

Anybody out there think this would be a much needed piece in the Lane 1 stable????

I''d love to see a drier lane piece...  I''d rather see a C2 core make a comeback, but I''ll take the standard diamond or maybe even the Panther core..

it would be anything but dry lane ball. creature and missing link are both strong stocks, the s30 of the original link would be a good start

Creature Pearl is S40 and I believe it was actually "plain", but true Super-Flex pearl. (900Global cannot use the name, "Super-Flex", since it was bought by Ebonite.) On the old simple diamond core, it should make a nice control ball with better than average hitting power, IF used on the correct amount of oil for the bowler's rev rate and ball speed. I think the Missing Link is also S-40.

at this point I am using a sanded xxxl on the burn most nights, i did polish it up a bit again the other night looking for more snappish move vs the roll
out i get now

my rose and white link even with its weak core is still quite strong on the backside

My original idea was that the single density core would provide a little more control of the flare and, without the flip blocks and side suts etc, should give a little more control.

The idea of the weaker cover with a rolly core could make for a nice piece. I agree that the S-30 would probably be the best but 900-G is already using the S-40 for the Missing Link so I figure it would be easier (and more cost effective) to make happen....

Doug, I like your idea but how about this? Pink Panther core(good continuation) wrapped with a pearl urethane shell. Colors could be electric/neon green with silver.

The HRG was one of my favorite for dryer condition and the carry was amazing. The high rg and the low diff. The HRG was the most controlable ball I that I have thrown. The Gemstone. Chainsaw were close.

See, I never could get the handle on my Chainsaw and my Gemstone turned the corner harder than anything I ever saw.

My Gemstone was at home playing the same exact line as I was playing with my similarly drilled Curve....didn't seem right for a ball that costs $50 less.

The HRG was a nice mix of super-weak core and a decently strong cover. I've been told it was the same M80 variant that was on the Columbia 300 Action.

The HRG was a decent enough ball for me on THS, but when it really shined was when I started bowling USBC White and Blue patterns, and sport patterns that had a tendency to go dry in the heads. The core in that ball allowed me to stay more direct for longer after other people were busy moving left, left, left.

As Doug notes, I've had a love/hate relationship with my Chainsaw. Right now, it's back to hate rather than love. The combination of low-RG core and a weak cover apparently doesn't work for my game. I have too much over/under with the ball, too much allergy in oil, too little hitting power in the back. Like Doug, I also see people using Gemstones and hooking the whole lane.

The sweetest spot of all right now for dry-lane stuff, in terms of it coming from the 900Global-poured family of balls (of which Lane #1 is a member) is the original Link. The core is fairly dynamic but the cover is nice and mild.

I think eventually, Lane #1 needs to bring back the C/2 core in something, because all of us ball ho's would buy a truckload. In fact, I'd like to see a three-ball release arc with the old C/2 core, giving us a mild pearl in the vein of the Link, then a hybrid in the middle and an oiler on top. I think L1 would sell the crap out of that.

For the last three months, I've started my leagues with (usually) a polished Time Bomb, then stepped down to a Tsunami H20, then switched to a rose Link at the end and I've been doing very well with that setup.

I would love to see a mix of this, or even better a Pearl Liberator using the old U2 coverstock(or some variation).

I think the Chainsaw is hands down the best ball they have made in years.  I have two, one drilled straight up with 2000 polish and the other sanded at 1000 no polish.  I can almost any THS with this combo.

I am all for a weaker ball since it seems that the West Coast centers don't put oil out compared to the East coast.......
