Where will the Purple Pro fit in this mess???
« on: January 28, 2004, 03:57:55 AM »
I currentally have these:

Super Carbide Bomb- Pin above ring cg swung out 1/2. (my heavy oil beast)
Pearl Carbide Bomb-pin in centerline below fingers cg swung.(My benchmark ball)
Viper-Same pin and cg placement as PCB.
XXXL. Pin below and to right of ring cg in palm.

Pro Purple on the way and have the opportunity to purchase
one more new non bomb and POSSIBLY A USED one.

I would like to know where the Pro is going to fit into this
mess I have. And also what new ball you would get and where would it go
in my lineup? Would a pro fill this line out enough or would a SD or
XXL round it out even more?

I cannot say where the Pro Purple will fit in with respect to the Viper.

With the same or similar drillings,
with respect to the Pearl Carbide Bomb, it should hook earlier with less backend, but should handle more oil;
with respect to the SCB, it should go longer, hook less and handle less oil.

is it just me, or does the purple pro sometimes seem to have a mind of its own?!?  i've thrown mine on several conditions, and never with a pre-conceived notion of what it was going to do . . . it will hook up on oily lanes where my WOW won't wrinkle, and will go relatively long on dryer conditions.

but if i can't find a consistent reaction on a given night with my other equipment, i can usually find a good place to play the purple pro.

has anyone else had a similar experience?

i would personally put the purple pro between the SCB and the PCB . . . i think it rolls up sooner than the pearl bomb . . . sometimes!

Agreed on the Pro Purple.

I have two of them.  One is drilled 3x5.(orange Trizact)  The other is 5x5. Shiny.  The 5x5 would fit between the viper and the pearl bomb.   My 3x5 would fit in between the Pearl bomb and the SCB.  They both roll really consistent.  I am never surprised at how much oil the Scuffed Pro Purple can handle.  So smooth and heavy rolling.

BS, err, BadShot,

I have always found the Pro Purple to be a model of consistency, impossible to make it flip, always hooks, more or less according to the oil, 110% responsive to any change I make in release or speed. It is not a dry lanes at all. Medium-light is the lightest oil I have ever dared to use it on. Medium to medium-heavy oil is its forte (depending on your "hand"); I have been able to use it on true heavy oil, but that was strictly by accident. It is nowhere near a hard hitting ball, but if I cannot get to the pocket with any other ball, I was always able to get to it with the Pro Purple. ALWAYS.

I'd suggest it does not hook on dry because it is grabbing the lane too early.
I'm not sure what you mean by "hook up"; it is not a expression that is used locally.

good one, charlest . . . good one . . . touche!

for me, i have to throw an "experimental" shot with the pro purple, because i have very little idea how the ball will react on a given condition.  by "hook up" i mean grabs the lane relatively early and begins to hook.  now how this ball can do this in a "box" condition compared to a WOW is a mystery to me, but i've seen it too many times.

i love the purple pro.  it's definitely a "go to" ball.  one of the best of all time.  but, imho, it's a confusing ball.

i know enough about bowling to know when a ball is rolling out on dry conditions.  but thanks for your analysis anyway.

i just wish that lane #1 would always keep a ball in their line-up that has the purple pro coverstock.  that's my one wish . . . the only one . . . promise . . .

Odd, but it suggests a possibility.

no offense intended, that can sometimes be very hard to see.

That which does not kill me busts my hump!

I know it may be a remote possibility, but check on the weights of your ball. There's a remote chance they could be WAY off. Also, what surface is your ball? I found it most consistent, most versatile when at the cerium ovide Trizact finish; it's the most polished one.

If you can get one, I strongly believe that the Brunswick Riot Zone is the exact same cover (different core and different ball path: long and hard arcing, big hook).
