Which ball (any company) is similar to Solid Uranium?
« on: December 26, 2006, 05:43:01 PM »
My Solid Uranium was severely damaged by the ball return in league last week.  The owner of the alley said that they would buy me a new ball, whatever I wanted.  The only thing was that they would prefer it not to be Lane #1.  I assume it's a cost issue, but who knows.  I'm not going to argue or anything, because they're not obligated to replace the ball anyway.  It's more of a generous gesture on their part, considering they don't *have* to do anything for me.

So, I'm looking for a ball, might as well be a newer one, that is similar to the Solid Uranium, but not Lane #1.  Similar coverstock, because I don't want to replace it in my arsenal with something that's totally different.  I loved this ball, so any ideas on something that might come close to it?  It's a free ball anyway, so let's hear some suggestions.  Thanks!

Well, I have one of those, too, but it has been retired for a while.  Just seemed to lose it's "pop", so I kinda moved on to other balls.  Anything newer that would be comparable?  I mean, it doesn't have to be exact, since that's impossible.  I just want something that won't deviate too far from what the Solid U was, coverstock-wise and everything, to keep my arsenal similar to before the accident.

I would recommend a Big One, mine carries well and reacts simmillar to my
Lane #1 gear. I used the #2 drilling on my Big One.

Broncobiv, that's kind of rude by the center if you ask me.

No ball will roll like a Lane #1 ball, due to their diamond core. They would prefer you get a different one, but they didn't say they wouldn't get you another Solid Uranium. Stick to your guns and make them replace the ball you have with the same ball.

THEIR machines damaged YOUR ball, so it's their obligation to keep their customers happy.

I'm sure if you damaged their ball return or whatever, they would want you to replace it with the same model as what their using..!! Well, the same goes for you too. =:^D

My suggestion would be that if u liked the uranium that much, get another.  If theyre only willing to pay $xxx for a ball after u try to talk them into the uranium, i would just pay the difference & call it a day.

Broncobiv, stick to the Solid Uranium and not something less if you were happy with that ball. Look at it this way......If you were driving a Mercedes that you loved and someone ran into it and totaled it out, would you settle for a cheap Ford or Chevy as a replacement? Of coarse you wouldn't.

Have the center put out the money for a new ball, and you pay the rest and get a New Lane #1 ball..(EU,BCB,HRG).....

I might try and talk them into getting anotehr Solid U still.  But first question, aren't those discontinued now?  And if so, would it be hard for them to get one, or not since it hasn't been that long?  I don't think they carry Lane 1's in their pro shop, so they'd have to go to the manufacturer.

One of their actual excuses for not wanting to replace mine with another Lane 1 was that shipping would take a while if they only order one ball (which I don't really buy).  And after I showed them what ball it was, their reaction was kind of like, "Ooh, that will be tough to replace.  Any other ball you want besides Lane 1?"

I would feel weird asking them what their max offer was for a new ball, then asking how much a Solid U would be, and then giving them the difference (if in fact that is one of the obstacles).  But I guess I can ask again why they don't want to get me another Solid U, and if it's a price issue, offer to pay some extra.

In the end, if I can't end up getting another Solid U (wouldn't want to try to replace that one with a different Lane 1), would an Elite PBA Shark be good?  That's the ball that my pro shop guy suggested.  Similar coverstock, and a good ball.

If your pro shop suggested an Elite PBA Shark, then price isn't an issue. The Solid Uranium is still on Lane #1's webiste, so they should be available. Just call them and ask. =:^D

I agree with.. both above...

If they say an Elite...PRICE is NOT an issue!

If they want to buy a cheaper ball...and you love the difference of lane#1...pay the small difference.

Oops, just to clarify, the Shark suggestion was from the pro shop that I normally go to.  The damage to my ball happened at a different alley in town.  So they may reject that idea, too.  I guess I'll just try to convince them to get another Solid U.  And if there's no way I can swing that, other good replacements are a Shark (unless they say no again), a Big One, or a Scorchin' Inferno (based on suggestions in this thread so far)?
