Why do some internet sellers put the price ???
« on: January 09, 2007, 08:41:46 AM »
of their bowling balls shipped and others say message me?  Do they think they can get more money if they talk to someone because they are a better sales person?

Both Triggerman and Drillwizard put their G-Force bowling ball cost shipped anywhere in the US (not including Alaska or Hawaii I'm guessing) and others who want to sell them say "Message me".  Are they giving a secret don't tell anybody deal.

I won't deal with people like that.  If you want to use Ballreviews as you selling place especially the Lane 1 forum (which is not a ball for sale forum) then at least have the courtesy to post the cost as well.

It would seem to me that they want to charge you only exact shipping to your location. Those that state that shipping is included probably have figured in 15-20$ for shipping. Now what if you only live 50 miles from the seller. Shipping may only cost 5$. So those that are including shipping are makeing an additional profit on shipping.

I am pretty sure that prior to a new release, the Lane #1 sellers are in agreement with Lane #1 NOT to list the price on public forums, but are allowed to communicate this info via PM.  This is probably why you see this.

I have seen from time to time, sellers list the price, which is probably against the wishes of Lane #1.

All that being said, I agree with you that it is a pain to have to PM someone and wait for a response just to find out the price of an item for sale.  Not sure why there is any reservation about listing the price up front as far as Lane #1 is concerned.

I think most, not all Lane 1 bowling balls (new to the market) are dropped shipped.  Shipping is what it is and its usually within about 5 dollars.

167 dollars shipped to your door and 32 dollars to drill still puts this out the door for 199 dollars.  Not cheap by any means, but it seems Lane 1's prices are starting to compare to other major companies like Storm Brunsick and Ebonite.  Seems like through the years Lane 1 has come down a touch where as most other companies are going up.  as they should.  Not complaining.

I have bought bowling balls from some of these guys who don't give the price for a ball shipped until you talk to them and they have consistently been more expensive then Drillwizard to Triggerman.

Just an observation.

personally i prefer not to put the price because i cannot say what a certain ball is worth and what people would pay for it i would rather have someone pick their own price so they don't think they are being ripped.

This is true, but Lane#1 can then not sell them the next newest release.    Causing the shop to lose money so they agree to the manufactures wishes.  Just the way it works..

One of the points I was really trying to make is that these interent sales people are using the Lane 1 forum as a ball sale forum and add no value to the forum.  Triggerman and Doug Sterner at least answer questions about Lane 1 equipment, talk about drillings etc.  But then you see those who write "I am taking pre-orders"  or "I have these bowling balls for sale or on EBAY" but they give no real value to the Lane 1 forum.

That's exactly right Zues. I was selling some high performance car parts a while back, and one of the manufacturers cut me off for selling too low. I had no overhead, so I could work on a smaller margin. Larger retailers were whining to the manufacturer that they could not compete with me, so the manufacturer looked at who sold more of their products over the long term. The larger retailers won out, and I was cut off. Just another instance where the big guys can use their weight to squash the small guy out of business. That's just life in the real world.

Zeus while this is supposed to be true it is 100% not inforced. It sounds real good by L1 saying they wont sell to so and so if they break the rules. I know for fact that there are a number of their best sellers who break these rules most if not all of the time. And there is no way that Lane#1 is cutting off their best sellers. I hope someone from the hype machine reads this and responds. No one has ever been cut off from buying, sounds good but entirely smoke and mirrors. As long as they get their money their happy. They will do or say anything to make the sellers happy, trust me.

Nic, you are exactly right. Other than Doug and Triggerman, the other internet sellers offer no value to this forum. They should stick strictly to the "For Sale" forum. As for Doug and Triggerman, they are both terrific guys. They don't just post to sell balls as others do, they also post to help people, and I will go a step further and say they post to help people more than they post to sell balls. I have bought balls from both of them and I have asked and received help/advice from both of them. Neither has ever failed me.

Other then a rubber spare ball all I throw is Lane 1 (except the XXXL Ebonite soon to be replaced with the G-Force I hope) so I spend a lot of time reading the Lane 1 website and the Lane 1 forum on Ballreviews.

So why does Buddies Pro shop have the G-Force on his website for $167.50?  Same price as Drillwizard and Triggerman and its posted on Buddies website.

What a bunch of crock.

I've bought a few balls off of Drillwizard, and have nothing but good things to say about all my transactions. He is very straightforward, talks to the guys here... I wouldn't trust about anyone else as far as getting a 1st-quality Lane #1 ball.

Don, no one is questioning good or bad transactions. The Topic is about people using the Lane 1 Forum strictly for  advertisement while contributing nothing useful to the forum.

No offense, but i hate u.  Where do u get your balls drilled for $32?

My driller is 40, just for the holes, 5 for finger tips, 10 for thumb insert, plus tax is right around $60 to drill for me.

I tried going no finger tips or thumb insert.  My hands dont like the resin, it makes me dry up really bad & my skin cracks.  Otherwise it would only be about $45ish for drilling.
