Black Cherry Bomb overrated?
« on: September 30, 2003, 06:59:25 PM »
Has anyone drilled up a Black Cherry Bomb and been disappointed with how much it (doesn't) hooks?  I drilled it label leverage, just as my Inferno and my Cherry Bomb. After throwing it on medium-heavy and medium, I have found it go longer than the Inferno, and have about as much overall hook as the Cherry Bomb(Black Cherry rolls earlier but has less of a 'pop' on the back).  I've read many reviews  written about how much this ball hooks.  Out of the box, it seems to be a bit shiny.  Has anyone toyed with the surface and found any favorable results?  I was expecting a hook monster, and got a medium-condition ball.

Sounds to me as if you have lots of dry backend or fried heads.

Too much backend or heads that are drying out will kill the Black Cherry. With the way you are talking it seems that your lane condition is conducive to a pearl resin which would say to me that there is backend to be found. IF there is backend, the Black Cherry is the wrong ball to be using unless you are in the warp 9 ball speed club.

I was having troubles last night getting my Inferno to make the corner. I pulled out the Black Cherry, threw 2 balls adn put it away. The ball was rolling way too early and overhooking.

I was never a fan of label leverage drills. They all seemed too finicky for me...perhaps it works well on pearls for you but not a solid?!?!?!?!

Label leverage drillings, i.e. 1:30 pins to CG work better on pin in(0-2") balls because they are much more controllable. =:^D

Thanks Doug.  Actually, I am in the warp 9 ball speed club.  Fried heads definitely havent been the problem, but I do have fresh backends.  Often it is the case that it could be too much ball for the condition.  But, during the times I was speaking of, the BCB was not rolling out.  It simply wasn't making the turn , or turning too late, where the Inferno was making the turn.  It almost appeared to slide through the break point(of which my speed can be partially blamed).

This is definitely not a pin in ball, so I may heed T-God's advice.  I thought about altering the cover to change the reaction, but that is a never ending battle.  I may just stack leverage it to get it going earlier.
