Title: XXL
Post by: carlos on May 11, 2009, 03:06:49 AM
Is there a big difference between the XXL and the XXXL bowling ball. I know the XXXL is plastic and the XXL is not. I was wondering is there a big difference in the reaction for the two. If anyone has both how do they compare ? I have a XXXL and I guess I have not ran into dry enough lanes to actually use it. Thanks for any input. Carlos

The name may imply similarities but actually very different balls here.

XXXL = plastic as you know
XXL = is Pearl Urethane

I use my XXXL for only for spares.
My XXL is for medium to semi-dry conditions.

Here're some of the reviews for XXL: http://www.ballreviews.com/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ManufacterID=7&BallID=457

What if i hit the XXXL with a 2000 abralon pad. Would that just be a waste of time. I'm looking for a 15lb XXL if I can find one. I try to use the XXXL for a strike ball but it just seems to do to little on the backend. I just need it to do just a little something. Thanks Carlos

Neither are great unless there is very little oil!

I found the XXL hooked a lot but with little backend on our carrydown condition.

I found the XXXL hooked a little and late but not much on our carrydown.

Ideal condition for both has backends!

Lucky do you think I would be wasting my time trying to the 4000 abralon pad to it. I know that the liberator is a urethane ball but from the reviews it seems very strong. Unless someone who has one can suggest a drilling for one that it won't react so strong. I will check back later the evening. Thanks for all the input. Carlos

I've owned the XXXL, and a friend of mine has an XXL that I have thrown, and for me they were totally different.

The XXXL would flare a bit, but really not all that different from a regular plastic ball, just a bit stronger. On the same condition that the XXXL would hit the pocket, the XXL would give me a pretty good move on the backends, almost like a mild reactive.

For me, the XXXL would be good for bone dry lanes, while the XXL would cover light to mediums, as long as there were backends.

I don't have the XXL, but I do have the XXXL and a ball similar to the XXL, Visionary's Slate Blue Gargoyle (urethane pearl with a core). My Slate Blue is good on anything up to medium but it really excels on dry-mediums. It's a nice piece to have.

If you're going to use a XXXL on anything other that completely scorched lanes, you either need to be a low-speed rev-dominant guy or have massive amounts of hand. I can use my XXXL but it has to be extreme dry for it to work.

If you can get a XXL, snatch one up. Even if you hate it you can resell it for a nice price.
