Silver Diamonds hate carrydown?

Picked up a single drill SD a couple weeks ago, well actually it was given to me.

Anywho... I primarily bowl at two houses, one known for good backends and minimal carrydown and the other known for carrydown from hell.

This ball is just a tad bit over-under at the second house, and that is the house that I judge all my balls by.  I can use anything at the first house, but if I can't use it at the second house I tend to get rid of the ball.

Should I just let the track develop on this ball, or is the coverstock/core combo mild enough to get away with a 2000 or 4000 abralon finish without polish?

Too bad the ball is pin in...

I wouldn't be surprised that this ball did not handle much carrydown, if any at all. Low flare potential and high gloss factory polish combine to clear most heads easily and hit hard on the backend on CLEAN backends.

Being a PK 18 pearl, it can be scuffed or sanded for a smoother reaction that will handle more oil and more carrydown, but it will lose some of that backend - the usual story. I'd start with either a hand rubbing with a green nylon pad or a total sanding  to 4000 grit matte finish (2000 grit if 4000 grit is too smooth).

I'd be inclined to keep it polished for when it can be used; it was a very good ball for most people on medium-light oil to as much as medium back when it was new. Now, it is mostly for light to medium-light, for the average bowler.

I had another strongly drilled low flare ball and I disliked it as well.  One of these days I'll learn what to avoid.

. . . I would hit this ball with green scotch brite pad
. . . then polish it with 3M

I used to have a Silver Diamond myself and that ball goes long enough to begin with so it dies not like carrydown at all. I would recommend using an earlier rolling ball something with some surface when the lanes get to that point.
