2 ball Lane 1 arsenal
« on: December 01, 2004, 10:23:54 PM »
Hi!

I've been advised by a few good bowlers in my area that I should drop down a weight for my bowling balls.

I'm going to get a XXXL as my spare/dry, what other Lane 1 ball should I get to?

Conditions I see are usually THS, mid-dry to mid-wet, sometimes with dry backend, sometimes with carrydown.

Also I'm NOT a fan of altering surface.

So, Dirty bomb (would this ball go too long?) or Uranium preal (Read reviews that this ball is quite 'jumpy')?

Many thanks!!

The Uranium Pearl would be my recomendation, its more even than the dirty bomb and not as strong on the backend.  My Uranium will cover med/light to med/heavy and it is out of box finish.  If you slow it down or move outside it will cover some descent oil.

Question: Why don't I want a ball that is stronger on the backend?

I have an original Inferno, as much as I like that ball, I think it's a little bit too condition-specific. I am hesitant to get the Uranium preal, because I believe the Inferno has the similar coverstock as the Uranium preal.

Doug Sterner said in his Dirty Bomb review that

I thought a skip/flip ball would be less predictable?!?

Never used Lane1 before, that's why I'm listening to all your Lane 1 experts' opinions.

Again, many thanks

If your using one ball for everything (Im just guessing that the uranium would be your main ball) you dont want a real big skid flip ball. It get too hard to control, especially if you catch a day with super flying backends or anything like that. So a ball that has a little more arc, and less snap will be easier to control, and work on more conditions.

First of all all three balls have same coverstock uranium pearl, orig. inferno and dirty bomb.  Second yes skid/flip is more unpredictable that is why I said the Uranium is more even than the dirty.  The uranium is not skid flip.  The dirty and the uranium share cover but the dirty is longer and stronger than the uranium because of core.  I didn't say anything bad of the dirty bomb just that the Uranium would cover a wider range of lane conditons than the dirty ( they can handle same amount of oil) in my personal opinion.  The dirty bomb is fantastic but since you limite it to one ball I suggested the Uranium to give you a little more of an even reaction.  The dirty can handle carry down better and the uranium can even out stronger backends better.  Its really hard since you only want one ball.  Hope this info helps.

Thanks JPRLane1!

The only reason that I only want one ball is that I intend to drop down a weight for about 3-6 months.

Cos of injury and lack of practice, my wrist is not as strong as it used to be, as soon as my arm/wrist strength is back, then I'll go back to my multi-ball arsenal.  (I'm a bowling balls junkie!)

Many thanks
