*UPDATED* LOVE my Buzz Attack AND my XD
« on: January 26, 2010, 04:40:15 AM »
BA has a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 layout with a high cg, no WH ... very strong, smooth and versatile !!!

XD still needs a coverstock adjustment that I feel comfortable with tho ... OOB is too strong for the 4 x 3 layout, so I hit it with 1000 white pad first, then tried polished lightly too ... still too much for me, so now I''''m at highly polished and I''''m not there yet (it''''s not in my bag).
Thinking of taking the cover up step by step, without and then with polish, at each abralon level until I find a place for this ball in my lineup.

Any experience or suggestions ??? BTW ... it will need a balance hole to get rid of 5/8 oz of side weight.

Thanx !!!

May I suggest, before redrilling, try a weight hole to reduce flare?
Either 2" above your PAP or 2" inside your PAP.
Use large enough hole to affect the core. Don't worry if it has 3/4" of negative side weight (I have balls like that that that still flip hard.). The hole should be around 7/8" wide and 2 1/2" deep at least.

OR

Try a hook reducing, backend reducing polish like Valentino's UFO.

I agree with Jeff about placing the weight hole inside PAP or up PAP, and negative side isn't so bad if that's what you wind up with.  I had a STING drilled with a 1/2 oz negative side weight and it still arc'd as hard as anything I've owned.

Thanx, guys ...

I normally try to get a "read" on a ball''''s reaction before I have a WH drilled so that I locate the hole properly to get the desired effect, so I''''ll try the Snake Oil/Extended Length polish adjust first and then use the good info that you''''ve provided. BTW ... tried a WH inside my VAL with my BD and wound up selling it (I chose a bad layout that was too strong for my style and that ball).

Update later ...

PS - My Buzz Attack seems to be getting stronger as I "break in" that cover I''''d heard about break in time on the BPR, but has anyone had this experience with their BA ??

Only thing I cna say with the ball getting stronger is the fact that as you use it the surface is getting rougher with time, making for a coarser finish that the ball is rolling on. This happens to every ball, some being more noticable than others. Other companies seem to shine up and get weaker as time progresses, LM/L gets stronger as you use it just from slight lowering in surface texture.

My BPR is good even just after being refinished, but as my polish starts to wear off it becomes stronger in the midlane and allows for a more pr4edictable shot while staill allowing to play the same line as before. I like mine best after it has about 6-8 games on a fresh polish.

Robb (and LaneHammer),

LaneHammer's reply got me thinking about this subject. I think his reason may be wrong because even polished balls just don't change that much unless the lane surface is very old and it is really chewing up the ball or if a super light (read: Insufficient) shine was put on the ball.

However, there is one possible reason which can explain what you both are seeing. Confidence in the ball. Unless we have already thrown such a ball or unless we already deeply believe in the "goodness" of that ball, most of us will throw the ball in a manner not quite the same as we throw the balls we use daily. We won't throw them with the same confidence level. we not 100% convinced it will reactthe way we epect it to. It's human nature. So you could just be throwing it better than when you first started using it.

Don't underestimate the power of the human mind. It affects everything we do, consciously and subconsciously.

I concur,Jeff ... 100% !!!

BTW ... I had my pro shop put a coat of Legends Extended Length polish on the XD will try it again tomorrow (you had mentioned Valentino's Snake Oil, but I had already tried a light coat of Legends Factory Finish polish and then highly polished it, so the EL polish is the next step that doesn't change the underlying grit. Gonna wait until I "find" a coverstock/reaction that suits me before drilling the WH.

Thanx again!!!

Robb,

When I used LM's extended length, my results (not proven) seemed to indicate it wasmuch like Ebonite's extended length polish: in that it was just an extra abrasive polish intended to make the surface finer AND polish it. That gives them both, the "extra length".

They are not at all like Valentino's UFO, Track's/Powerhouse's Delayed Reaction or Neo-Tac's Control-iT. All of those have a "grab inhibitor", if you will. They all provide extra length, REDUCED overall hook AND REDUCED backend.

If LM's Extended Length polish gives you want you want, fine. But extra length, also gives you extra backend. It is just NOT what I recommended.

Thanx, Jeff !!!

Is the XD really that strong. My pro shop just got one in for me, and I have no idea how to drill it yet.

Are we talking to strong, backend wise, midlane wise, roll out strong or what?

My XD is really that strong yes. With the OOB finish it was very strong in the midlane with a hard finish. On the local shots here, it was just too much ball for the conditions. I polished it, and it is still too strong for most of the conditions I face in league. It gets through the heads much cleaner with the polished finish, but has a very, very strong finish.

On another note about the Buzz Attack, I have mine polished and use the Power House Reaction Plus product. It gives the ball a smooth action in the midlane with a strong finish. I prefer this finish over the OOB finish.

I have noticed slot of people got a XD that came with a matte finish. The one my pro shop got in is as decribed on the site. Polsih with white pad over top, so mine will be quite shiny OOB. I typically have to polish my equipment anyways because of my style.

If this ball digs hard in the midlane as it sounds, I will definitly have to go pin up with this one.

Be cautious in presuming that they throw the ball similarly to you, have drilled it similarly and face similar lane surface/oil pattern that you do. Remember we're talking relativity here: What we see is relative to what we are used to seeing. Unless you're there in person, it can be very hard to tell using words, ESPECIALLY with ball reactions and the number of different ways people can release the ball and at different speeds.

Humorously, 99% of us throw "medium revs and medium ball speed". Yeah, right!!

Much to much ball out of the box for higher rev bowlers, unless your bowling on a flood IMO.. I had mine drilled pin-up for max length, polished to a glow.. I think you'd have to be crazy to get this ball drilled pin-under, unless your rev challenged. This balls to strong for the majority of house shots I've come across..
