Hey true,
There are some shops who feel threatened by the fact that if you inform your customer, they will lose them to the internet or those who will give them a better deal, it's business not personal.
I personally offer any individual who has purchased a ball from me his/her personal info if they want. I've even gone as far as helping 6 individuals one night that Jonathan Ng (br member, you can ask him) brought in just to help find their paps and they weren't even my customers. I even paid for their time on the lanes to do so.
It's about the individual and what you feel your driller can offer you. I can understand what shops do because I am on the other side of the counter. Many times after spending 1/2 an hour or more on educating my customer about coverstocks, weight blocks and what would work for them, they go somewhere else to save $10 dollars. Oh well, that's a part of the business but I refuse to be ignorant and not try and help someone. That's why I'm here on BR...
Hope this helps shed some light on the subject, thanks.
