Any love for The Sting?
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:36:49 AM »
Had a friend give me a sting.  Only 8 reviews posted on it.  Particle cover, med rg.  I think I might like this one.

Not sure if it is just the one I had purchased new or not, but after 2nd layout and surface change, acts kinda weakish, sort of urethane like reaction for me.

The Sting is a low load particle solid with the same core as the Hornet and Buzz.

It is a very versatile ball actually. When polished, it will have a really nice back end and when dull, it will read the lane early, with a nice arching motion. One of the best balls LM has made.

I love my Sting, it is my go to ball when I need to get bailed out when lane conditions get squirrely.  Usually not a ball I use on the THS's I see in my home area.

I think I'm going to go 60 x 4 x 35(pin over ring, cg stacked).  This layout seems to work very well for me.  Otherwise, I'll go 40 x 4 x 70(pin under ring, cg kicked out), but haven't had much luck with that layout on particle covered balls.

Go pin up, if this ball rolls anything like the Buzz, which i am assuming it does. The you are going to have a real gem for heavier volumes because my Buzz just murders anything from med-light to mediums.

The Sting is a great ball and big seller for Lanemasters.  Mine is drilled with the CG centered to the palm of my hand and the pin is approximately two to three inches above the center point between the finger holes.  The pin is about four inches out and the top weight is about 3 3/4th ounces.  The ball gets good length with a sharp turn and pop into the pocket.  It is much stronger and can handle more oil than the Buzz, World Class Particle Pearl, Big Bang Reactive and World Class Reactive.  The medium high RG of the ball produces a lope down the lanes, saving energy, than a sharp turn.  Very explosive hitting power, even by Lanemaster standards.  As seems to be the case with Lanemaster/Legends particle pearls, the Sting develops lane sheen in the track area although, it doesn't seem to affect its performance.

I have mine drilled similar to ROCKS, and it has become my favorite the last four months. Had it for over two years and keep trying to replace it, but it just keeps floating to the top of the bag.
Good luck with yours.
