Ball question
« on: August 26, 2008, 04:37:34 AM »
Not sure if it has been addressed, but I was curious if L/LM planned on putting out a "low end" solid reactive.....like a Hornet solid or something similar.  Love my Hornet, but sometimes run into situations where the pearl coverstock gets a little erratic.  Anyone know anything?  Thx

If by "low-end" you mean "handles less oil" then the closest you'll probably find is the Big-R-Bang.  It's a very skid-snap piece in almost any kind of polished finish but for most strokers, it will be a medium-light oil piece.  If you've got a lot of hand then it will handle medium oil pretty well but I found it to be more of a lighter-oil piece for me.

It's pretty sensitive to oil but the coverstock is very clean.  If you've got a lot of friction available via broken down heads or second-shift wood lanes I think it will be a little less touchy than the pearl Hornet.

Beyond that, what about knocking the shine of the Hornet?  If the highly polished OOB surface is too touchy, then something like 4000-grit sanded should give some length but be less sensitive to oil.

With the way that Lm/L balls hook, I've only 3 things to say, 2 of them are suggestions.
1. don't hold your breath. I doubt it will happen. It took them forever to come out with the Hornet.
2. I tried the Hornet at 2000 grit Abralon. I got a very solid-like ball reaction, very smooth, compared to its normal, quite sudden like backend. Worth a shot.
3. (Like shelley said) Drill one of their "milder" balls very weak (like pin in or above middle finger and CG kicked out to or past the grip center), AND change the surface to 1500, 2000 or 4000 grit depending on your rev rate and other release specs. Balls like  Sure Strike, Absolute Power or the Buzz.
