Big Bang OOB?
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:45:37 AM »
I have mine with a polish on it and then alittle scuff to it. But I am going to go to nationals and want to take it along. I don't think the polished surface is what I want for nationals and was thinking about taking it down to 500, and up to either p800 or a grey pad? But if I know what the OOB is I may start there.

Since this is one of the "older" balls, I''m pretty sure (not 100%) that it''s 800 grit US/CAMI (light grey nylon pad) plus a very heavy dose of LaneMasters Factory Finish polish.

See I didn't think that it came with a factory polish finish...

Sorry, been thinking of my friend's Big R Bang.

The BB has the "sheen finish". After the heavy duty polish, they lightly go over it with the light grey nylon pad. Just enough so you can barely see the polish thru the haze of the abrasive scratches. You can approximate it with an application of Valentino's Resurrection.

I think I am going to take it down to 500 and then up with a grey pad and see what that does. I don't see it being very useful in it's current condition at Nationals. I will have my BPR to go long and be strong if needed.

IF memory serves, I BELIEVE OOB was 400 wet sand, 800 wet sand, polish, then 800 grit gray pad had a few back when they first came out.

BTW and FWIW ... I preferred mine highly polished over 800 wet sand cover.

Well thankyou both, I am just trying to decide if it's something I want to take with me. I will already have two polished balls in my Hammer Blue Vibe and my Black Pearl Reactive. So I am trying to figure out two heavier oil balls to drag along. I am stuck between the Big Bang and my NS2......

My last Nationals I tried a Big Kahuna at 4000 grit and found it far too aggressive.

Forget about the NS2. Try the BB at the sheen finish, as your strongest ball,
UNLESS
you have a higher than average ball speed.

I'd definitely recommend a 2000 grit type of solid resin, for an average revs and avg. ball speed delivery unless you have a lot of revs or a lot of ball speed.

(A polished NS2 verges on the skid/flip reactionfor medium oil for me.)

Use Resurrection as was suggested and you won't be dissappointed.

So can I just apply Resurrection over the top of it's current state and get the what you are talking about or what should I take it down to first. I have my own personaly made ball spinner, so I can do just about anything I need to, just let me know where to start and I will give the resurrection a whirl. I will be taking my 900G Bounty with me, but so far that ball has really not impressed me. But I am a higher speed kindof player, that is the one thing that the other guys whom have been to Nationals have told me is that if there is a thing I need to work on is slowing down.

justink,

Resurrection works over any surface from almost 400 grit US/CAMI to P4000 grit FEPA. When I want to change the surface, for safety's sake, I'll use a green pad (600 grit CAMI) first and then go over it with Resurrection, all using a spinner. Because of your higher ball speed, I'd suggest a final coating of Resurrection by hand (let it sit in the spinner cup) to get an 800 grit CAMI matte finish. Depending on the drilling, it should handle medium to medium+ oil with some carrydown, with good length and smaller than average backend (due to the small RG differential). But the hitting power should be above to well above average.

My friend has higher than average ball speed and lower than average revs and he can use his BB playing around 8 - 10 baord on true medium oil, with very good carry power. He loves it. Wish I could get him another one.

I have thought many times about finding a new owner for this ball. I hated it when I first got it. Just couldn't do much with it. But since going through some release changes I have found a new love for it. I have noticed here recently that by adding alittle more axis to my release on our house shot i can move left quite a bit. Amazingly this ball has more forgiveness to the right than my BPR.

Definitely has something to do with your ball speed, since, for the average rev, average ball speed person, this is a medium-heavy oil ball, with its stock cover. Samr for my friend.

Funny, even with these unchangeable hard particle balls, you can change the behavior of the ball with polish or surface change. (You're changing the resin base, not the particles, but you see a change in ball reaction - definitely.)

justink,

After Charlest's recommendation of the product to restore OOB, I used Resurrection and was very happy with the results. I just used on the ball as is at the time.

My BigRBang was my best performance ball at Nationals, last year.  I brought a Virtual Gravity, and the stripped back end ate it up.  Others with the VG had it scuffed with better results.   But, the BRB handled the second shift carrydown on day 2 with ease, and returned some bracket money while doing it.

Probably should have used it earlier.
