To Laybzz74, Charlest and others - selection assistance
« on: December 08, 2006, 02:03:27 AM »
I don't post much, but am an avid reader of the forum.  I know you guys get multiple requests daily regarding assistance with ball selection.  Normally, you direct them to the Legends web site or to Galen's e-mail.  I have researched the web site and have sent e-mails to both info at Legends and directly to Galen with no response.  I value your guy's opinions, so I am sending out to the masses.  I've done quite a bit or research, internet/forum and word-of-mouth, and have become interested in purchasing a L/LM ball.  What would you consider to be the most versatile L/LM ball?  I bowl mostly leagues, THS, with the occasional ABT, State and City tournaments.  Looking for something usable on most conditions with the majority on synthetics.  I prefer the down and in line, feet at 23-26 to 10 at arrows.  Speed is medium, 14.5-16mph with medium rev rate. Thank you in advance for your insight.

Take what I say with a grain off salt, but anyway. I've only thrown 3 of their balls. Love them all. But the NS2 has to be about the most controllable ball I've ever thrown. Very consistent, likes to ignore carrydown. Never looses energy on most patterns, just continuous through the pin deck. I even threw it on a sports pattern once, my first game was a 216.

YEA I WILL AGREE, MY BIG BANG IS A GREAT BALL FROM ANYWHERE TO MI-LIGHT TO MED-HEAVY, AND YOU COULD MAKE IT WORK ON THE HEAVY STUFF BUY LOWERING THE GRIT. i WILL HAVE TO SAY I HAVE HAD ALOT OF GREAT BALLS, THAT BEING THE BLACK WIDOW, HAWGZILLA, AND ROBO RULE AND I AM GOING TO COME OUT AND SAY I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE THIS BALL IN MY HANDS THEN THE OTHERS. I REALLY CAN'T TYPE OUT HOW MUCH I LIKE THIS BALL SO FAR. IT IS AWSOME. AND YOU CAN'T BEAT LANEMASTER/LEGENDS QUALITY. YOU DON'T GET BALLS THAT DIE IN MONTHS, THEY COULD LAST MANY YEARS WHEN CLEANED REGULARLY. ANYWAYS I NEED TO STOP RAMBLING.

Big Bang or World Class/R would be about right, if you prefer reactives i actually like the world class/r the best of any of there stuff. Lets me just bang away up the boards all day long, control with a nice hard arcing motion. Ball is underrated on here it works on about every pattern i have tried it on, never too much oil for it so far. When it drys up it let's you move in alittle and still playing inside out, the only ball i do not like out of any legends/lane masters balls is the Big-r-Bang. It hooked in my backswing out of the box now at 2000 and polished it is ok but does not have a really strong backend.

I have the Big Bang too, and I have just had a hard time adjusting to it. OOB it is a hook monster. I polished it and played down and in real well. Tried 1000 abralon, not impressed there. Might try 2000 or back to OOB. Very adjustable ball. Just hasn't fully grown on me yet. But it is true with only minor adjustments, speed, hand etc. I can play almost anything with it, very good roll.

The World Class Reactive is probably the most generic ball in the "pot" right now, because of its core AND its solid resin coverstock. To make it more appropriate for a down and in shot for TRUE medium rev on a TRUE medium oil pattern, I think a mild drill would be appropriate plus a change in the surface to less glossy polished finish, in order to even out the ball. In stock form for medium revs it can be a large hooking ball.

I agree with charlest. The WCR is a very versitale ball. i can play up the boards on an oily house with great recovery and the core in the ball is something that I hope lane masters uses more. The carry on this ball is amazing. I think since its the biggest core they've used thats the reason why. Another one i would look into would be the buzz. for some people this ball hooks more than expected (as with me also). but since its a pearl reactive it will still get down the lane when the lanes break down. but if this is your first lane masters ball i would go with a WCR.

my new standard has proven to me to be the most versitle ball ever. i dunno if you could get a new standard but im sure the ns2 is very close to being the same way
