Title: Black Pearl Reactive
Post by: justink on October 15, 2008, 07:36:53 AM
So what happened with this ball. There are only two reviews, they are by the same person and there are basically no posts. Who's got it and what do you think of it?

Pity.

These balls are some of the most respected pieces of equipment in the industry.

lol i might be one of them

neway, i drilled it with pin high and to the right of the ring, prolly about 2-3 inches from axis, cg in the palm.

great midlane and continuity thru the deck, needs some oil cuz otherwise it will be too much ball. btw, very sharp at the break, with nice backends it can be used to play very deep inside.

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

I have one for sale if anyone is willing to try it.

I got it in ABQ while there for nationals, drilled by Kent Wagner.  It rolls amazing,  clears the heads easily and the turn in the back is strong and predictable.  I think there are few people willing to spend big bucks on a ball, hence the reason there are so few reviews.  But it is worth it, and well worth the wait of release when it finally came out.

I am selling because I have too many spheres and I needs to clear out the rack.

I am on pro staff with Lanemasters. They just dropped prod. registration so now I have to get other stuff. The Black Pearl and BP Reactive are incredible balls. They have consistently been my go to balls in almost everything I bowl.
I never really liked the World Classes. The WC Reactive was the best of the 3.
I would also highly recommend the XS Power and the Kongs. I actually have 1 NIB Black Pearl Reactive I'm looking to sell.
Just my 2 cents
Steve

I'm hearing that this is a ball with a "break in" period ... 10-15 games B4 you can/should seriously evaluate it rumour has it that Kent Wagner made that recommendation based upon his chance to work with it. Can the LaneMasters staffer confirm this ???

BTW ... getting mine out of the pro shop today 5 x 3 layout, pin above the bridge (just right of my gripline), OOB I'm planning on getting my 15 games in early this week and maybe try it next week in my Tuesday evening league. More later ...

Robb,

Kent made the same suggestion to me when I purchased my first BP/R back in June.  He recommended hitting it lightly with the supplied 800 grit pad just to knock of a little bit of the polish.

What is with the 15 day break in? In the middle of league that is quite a few games. Also is the need for the initial sand due to the polishing and breakin? I am kindof confused here.

I would like to get one, so if anybody wants to sell that hasn't already said so, please message me.

10-15 games (not days) ... recommended before making any decisions on the ball some folks will roll less than 6 games and sell if not satisfied.

This ball is at 2000 grit, polished, then hit with a white pad(1000 grit)for it's OOB finish ... I'm figuring that after the break-in games, I'll decide on what grit and surface that suits me best ... as well as location and size of the WH to get around 3/4 side wgt out to get it legal.

More to come ...

I just drilled one yesterday and I like it. Not quite as strong as I thought it would be, but I can see where the cover may need some "work in" time, it is pretty highly polished. Teamate was throwing a Rico Sting and I was still left of him and not hitting the bank as hard with the BPR.

Drilled mine 3/4 up and right of the ring finger, and stacked the cg.

I'll get a review going when I get some more games on it.

I was hoping for more info too.  I ordered one, along w/ a Sure Strike, that should be here Friday.

Any suggestions on surface/layouts for either of those balls will be appreciated.

I drilled a Gladiator Solid, pin next to ring stacked, about a 4.5x4.5 drilling for me. I also have the BPR, similar drill but the pin is higher up, about 3/4 of an inch higher than the top of my ring finger. Threw a few games today with both.

They both seem to handle the same amount of oil. I was able to play similar lines, but due to the 2000 surface on the Glad Solid, it read the lane earlier. I didn't get near the track line with either ball and they both found the pocket regularly.

The BPR even with the high polish worked on what I considered a true medium. I would think with a little scuff, it could handle heavier mediums. I am hoping to get a few more games on it to see if it comes to life a little more. It was definitely too strong for a lighter medium shot I bowled on during league.

This ball has the most backend ... covers the most boards of ANY L/LM ball that I've owned to date part of it is that I've gotten better at "opening up the lane"(NOT my "A" game), BUT ... IMHO, this ball's cover/core combo is AWESOME !!!
5 x 3 layout, pin above bridge, and a WH on my VAL and in the thumb quadrant ... AND I had my pro shop hit it with a wet 1000 grit white scotchbrite pad on the spinner too.
As stated earlier, this ball did need a break-in period of about 2 dozen games or so, but after that and the coverstock adjustment, I LOVE this ball !!!
BTW ... a few boards stronger than my BP, which is 4 x 3 and also at 1000 grit.
