"800 grit (US) sheen"

What they do is a long drawn out process but I think you only need to know the last 2 steps. 800 grit US sanding followed by an intense, burned in high gloss polish with their factory finish polish. Then they take light grey nylon pad and lightly haze most of the shine off. They do NOT press hard on a spinner and get an 800 grit matte finish. They do it very lightly, just enough so you wonder if it's polished or matte. This leaves a "800 grit Sheen" finish. I have found that using Valentino's Resurrection on a spinner gets me VERY close to this finish, if the ball needs to be restored.

To get it to hook earlier, read the lane earlier and hook more, you can start with a full 800 grit sanding with a light grey nylon pad and make it truly dull.

If you need yet more hook and/or earlier hook, then use a green nylon pad (600 grit US) or a 1000 grit FEPA Abralon or Valentino pad (this is equivalent to 550 grit US.)

I would sincerely hope you do not really need this last step:
If you need still more hook, then try either a 400 grit US wet/dry sandpaper, a maroon nylon pad (320 grit US) or a 500 grit FEPA Abralon or Valentino pad (approximately 360 grit US.)

Charlest,   when it comes to sanding materials for a bowling ball,  You are the Man.  You should write a book,  seriously, you should write a book.

Have you tried the new Superpad foam pads from Supergrit?

They are a little less expensive then Abralon,  and seem to last a little longer.

And they come in more grits,  like 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2500, and 3000.  The grits not avavilable in Abralon.

Thank you. Those are very kind words. I appreciate them.

Not yet. YOu make me wonder how they compare to Valentino's pads which SEEM (! at this point in time) to last longer than Abralon pads. I'll take a look at them, as soon as I get a chance.
