Whats up with my drillers Black Diamond???
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:39:52 PM »
I have been pressing my pro shop owner to try out one of LM/L equipment, so when he ordered my Buzz, I he picked up a Black diamond for himself to try out their stuff.

Well tonight we were bowling against him, and he brought it out to use, this was his first time throwing it. He drilled it pin under bridge CG swung out a litle bit. His PAP is probably in the 4.5 range.

Well to say the least, even though he didn't say it he was not very impressed as was I, the ball only flared like 1/2 inch maybe 1 inch, and the ball rolled like my groove urethane, super smooth and weak. It was very hard to get it to the pocket, and when it did it had a tough time getting out the 10. I threw the ball as well since our fit are almost identical, and it didn't even flare at all for me and rolled really bad. He did not use it for league, he brought out his 715C and it rolled very well.

This was a bad first impression for him and left us both stunned. The Black series is known for having a high flaring core, and my BPR even with a 5 3/4 from PAP drill flares every bit of 5 inches. I told him something had to be wrong with the ball, possiblt LEMON from the factory.

How is everyone elses BD flaring for them, I am assuming this is just his ball having this problem or others seeing small amount of flare out of this piece.

I told him to call Tony to get it straitened out but he didn't seem like he was going to do that. I don't want this possible bad ball from the factory ruining LM getting his business, his shop sells alot of stuff, and I would be happy to see LM/L balls flying off his shelfs along with the other big brands.

I have a Black Pearl Reactive and a Black Diamond. The BPR is drilled 65x3.75x20 and the BD is drilled 55x4.5x30 with a P1 weight hole. Both are flare monsters. I can't imagine anything with this core (Black Pearl, Black Pearl Reactive and Black Diamond) not flaring unless pin to PAP distance approaching axis weight (<1") or very long pin to PAP distances approaching 6.75".

LM Legends Conquerer, 40x4.75x60, Resurrection
LM Legends Black Diamond, 55x4.5x30, P1 hole, Resurrection
LM Xtreme Damage, 35x5x30, Resurrection w/light LM FF polish
LM Buzz Attack, 45x3.75x45, P1 hole, Factory Sheen
LM Legends Black Pearl Reactive, 65x3.75x20, Resurrection w/moderate LM FF polish
LM Hornet, 45x5.25x25, 4000-grit abralon (polish when necessary)

What else was everyone using?
Was there enough oil for it? Did his come polished?
Do any of his other balls use that sort of drilling?

The answers to these types of questions may help you figure out what the problem is.

Call Tony Martin and ask for his help.

His came polished. There was plenty of oil out for him to use the ball, because I was throwing my Conquerer a couple frames in a practice game and had a really good reaction playing quite a bit of lane. With ym style, getting to throw the conquerer means there was plenty of head oil present.

He has other equipment pin under bridge like his BD, one being a Cell and another being a Reign. They both roll fine for him.

Another guy on the pair with a very similar roll to my driller was using a OOB Hammer Jacked and shot 745.

jbungard- i know what you mean with these cores flaring alot, as I mentioned my BPR with the sniffing 6 inch drill flares 5 inches still. I also have a New Standard with the pin above middle finger that i have measured myself to be right around 6 3/4 and it still flares almost 3 inches.

There has to be something wrong internally with this ball, core problem maybe. He is throwing 14 lbs but i believe the numbers are still the same or VERY close to the 15lb ball.

Hi Everyone,

I need to ask a few more questions before I can really comment.I don't recall ever drilling a PIN under ball with this weight block. I would really like to have him call me and I have couple questions for him.
There could be a number of variables here. So I will wait until I hear from the customer.

If it is a bad ball I will gladly replace it. No one is perfect.

Thanks for chiming in. I want him to call you and I hope to persuade him to. I feel something just went wrong somewhere down the line internally, it happens with every company. Not anyone's fault if this is the case.

Zero flare is weird though especially with this core, the specs o the box were very normal.

Was really hoping he would pull it out and be real impressed, I know if he did he would start carrying them on the shelves, just looking out for the company who ALOT more people need to know about.
