Looking for a ball to replace the sting that I sold. Sold it due to it not being quite as aggressive and consistent as I was hoping due to drilling. Since I don't exactly like to used much plugged equipment, it had to go.

I have narrowed my options to another Sting,Counter Strike, or Black Pearl. The particle helps get the mid-lane I need since all I bowl on are PBA Experience patterns and collegiate tournament sport shots. Most of those are around 40' and require playing inside and I need something that will still read the mids and have a back end. I narrowed it to these because they are fairly close on Lane Masters web site. I currently have a Terminator but its all midlane with no back end which doesn't work too well on those conditions. Once again, due to the drilling.

Which of the 3 would you suggest and drilling as well?

I saw the Counter Strike in ALbuquerque it has a pretty aggressive midlane and much less backend than most other Lanemasters balls. It is maximum control.

Many people love the BP.

I kind of like the World Class Particle pearl for what you're talking about. It is control but with more backend than the Counter Strike and less than the Black Pearl.

Sting is higly polished solid particle. Most people do not take the time to mod the surface to prevent the highly flippy backend on this ball. What did you do last time to cause you to get rid of it and how will you do things differently, IF you do decide to use another Sting?

To my mind, with the Sting's flippy backend, you either drill it to use that backend (maybe a lower pin position, with the CG/virtual MB kicked out) or your smooth out the surface and drill it with a slightly higher (and/or longer pin-PAP) distance.

Just read your profile. A "lower pin position" for your track might be pin in the ring finger.

Can't give you exact measurements on the layout but the sting I had was pin over middle with cg a big left of center of grip. The roll on it was not exactly predictable. I did not have much forgiveness at all on release. If I caught it slightly too much then it over hooked. A touch weak on the release and it did not think of recovering. Not to mention the ball almost seemed to wobble going down the lane. It was strange.

The Sting also takes cover adjustments worse than any ball I've ever changed. Talk about a pain. Then when you change it, it's near impossible to get it back to box finish.

Unfortunately I have not seen good results with the WCPP. The shop owner of where I go uses one but only when his Terminator and Black Pearl are hooking too much. Other people I've seen were not the best bowlers so it was hard to get an idea.

No one around here has the Counter Strike so I haven't seen it in action. Many have the Black Pearl and it seems to be a great ball. I've had experience with the sting and it was good, just not the right drilling.

Will add the WCPP to my possibles though.

Left of grip center, for a righty, implies a half hearted attempt by the driller to impose some control on a flippy ball.

Have you asked the Lanemasters folks about this at all?

I would not have have recommended a pin over the bridge with the stock surface UNLESS it was required by your PAP. (Personal rant: I really wish Lm/L would NOT have shined this ball up. Yes, it's strong, but for the pro release, not for Joe Average.)

See what I wrote above in my original reply: with the stock gloss polish, you need a low pin AND, possibly the CG kicked out a little, to a lot.

Sorry blame those HARD particle and that HARD resin coverstock base.

Once again, I recommend either Trizact or Haus diamond sanding pads to TRULE modify the particles of LM/L coverstocks.

Try taking a 1000 grit Abralon pad or a "P1000" grit sandpaper LIGHTLY to the surface of your Sting, by hand.

Have you tried a World Class Reactive yet ?
Shaggy (ballreviews id) has had good success with one.

i agree with charlest. the world class particle pearl would be a great choice. I had a sting and don't use it anymore for the same reason as you. it never gave me a consistent breakpoint. i had to keep the coverstock mint fresh on a certain surface. i used the WCPP at nationals and it worked great. (i just sucked) carry on the ball is honestly the best i've seen for lane masters ball, and i believe its cause of the big weight block.
