5 game mini-review of Big Bang, and an ball question (long)
« on: October 14, 2006, 07:53:49 AM »
I don't normally do this, so bare with me.  I was able to use my Big Bang on my league shot today along with a couple games of practice beforehand.  Wow, is all I can say.  I was expecting the ball to be strong, but this is an absolute beast.  I did an experiment and drilled this ball with about 3/16 more reverse in my fingers than normal to see if I could get a better feel.  I noticed that as a side-effect, it cut down my rev rate substantially (apparently I use my finger to get my revs).

But even so, this ball was a good 7-8 boards stronger than the bruiser I normally use on the pattern (they have very similar layouts, and bruiser is around 1000-1200 grit rather than the BB's sheen finish).  Doesn't sound impressive, but I was not nearly getting the same heavy roll I do from my normal shot.

What shocked me though was the backend reaction; once again I knew what to expect and it exceeded expectations.  I could tell the ball was reading the lane, yet it still had a definable snap, regardless of my rev rate being lesser.  It didn't really wait to sniff out dry to move like most snappy balls I've owned, it just moved regardless of where it was.  Pin carry was very nice, it sounded like it was hitting with more umph than my bruiser, even though the bruiser is my "money ball" on our league pattern and gets me wonderful carry/entry angle.

I planned to go back to the shop to get the finger pitch set normally but honestly, I'm actually scared to.  I'm frightened to think how strong it will be if I throw it how I normally do.  At least now it's *somewhat* useable, though I don't know how it will match up to the tournaments I bowl.  Which brings me to my question.  Since I now have a considerable gap (assuming I redrill the BB), what do you think I should use to fill it?  The black pearl caught my eye, as I haven't had a particle pearl in a long time.  But of course, the latest and greatest isn't always the greatest.  So any opinions?  I'll try to get a video of myself on Monday if that would help, but I'm just looking for basic suggestions.

PS-  Charlest, I know truly know what you meant when you said the Big Bang is one of L/L's oil-loving balls.

Andy,
IMHO, the new Black Pearl is a beast, and has become my new benchmark and
"go to" ball; I believe that it's a true medium oil ball, and it could probably handle a bit more with the right/matched up layout and a bit of hand.
If you haven't checked out my previous posts and thread on it, please do ...

As you might have read in my other post the BP is very strong for some reason the Big R Bang is even stronger like i said before in the Absolute inferno range out of the box for me at least. I had too tame down my Masterpiece ball 4 times before getting the right matchup surface wise for which is probably what i will do with the BRB. The BRB is more of beast with me throwing than the BP which with me using it i thought it was going to be the other way around.
