Help With BK Layout
« on: September 21, 2006, 09:48:33 AM »
Hi,
I was given a used Big Kahuna that I'd like to drill up. Presently, the pin is above the fingers about 1/2 an inch. The span is a little over 4". The ball looks to have a 2 and 7/8 pin. I do not know the top weight. I will be using this ball on a medium-heavy house shot (synthetic lanes) that in my opinion are a bit flatter and longer than the typical house shot. I imagine I will need to set the ball up to roll early on this condition but I still need some finish. See my profile for my specs. Any thoughts?

I have a Buzz with the pin about an inch to the right of the fingers drilled stacked with an x hole on the PAP. This ball is a solid arc for me. I've bowled on synthetic and wood, wet and dry, and it is always a constant arc. Of course, the arc starts later on wet but it is still an even arc. I am trying different surfaces to give me a little back end bump. I mention this to offer more information on my  personal experience with Lanemasters equipment and drillings for me.

I have enjoyed and learned a great deal on BallReviews and appreciate all of you who contribute.
Thanks, Spoon

Charlest,
I got a call from Galen Tuesday afternoon; apparently he read your last thread and wanted to alleviate your fears ... there is NO change in the production procedures for the KONG or the Yeah Baby so fear not, my friend. What he told me was that the changes that have occurred is on the newer equipment and that is based upon their testing and R&D prior to production ... whatever they feel gets them to their desired OOB finish.
If you need any futher clarification, give Galen a buzz ... he loved to chat with you.

Ok, Rob, I understand.
If I have some time this afternoon, I'll try and give Galen a call.

Just to follow up and thank those that helped me with my BK, I wanted to report that I offficially love this ball. Laid out pretty much as Charlest suggested (4x3) with the pin about 1 and 1/2" below the ring finger. The only difference is the weight hole was placed where the old thumb hole was - in the thumb quadrant on the VAL about even with the newly drilled thumb hole.

Just got to throw a few games on a medium to medium-heavy house shot. It is plenty strong for this condition. The ball goes a bit longer than I suspected but it's really revving up in the mid-lane and ends up hooking more than I thought it would. Kind of a powerhouse sort of move. Not flippy just real stong.

I questioned the previous owner again and upon reflection, he thinks maybe he had hit it with a 4000 abralon or maybe he put polish on it, maybe he didn't do anything - he can't remember. It looks factory to me and I wouldn't change it but it bugs me not to know what the surface is.

What a great ball. Thanks again for all the help.
