Finish my arsenal for me...
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:30:01 AM »
Have the Buzz and the Hornet...looking for two more balls to make an arsenal.

Im stroker, slow/moderate speed , ave revs, generally play on conditions from med heavy thru to light oil. Very happy with Buzz for med/light and Hornet for light/dry.

Need input for medium and medium heavy conditions.Current balls only please.

Go to the LaneMastes.com  site so you can compare their ball reactions and listen to their commentaries of what conditions they intended for their balls.  The Terminator Rebellion is considered their benchmark ball that will help you decide what you should be using for that particular condition.  It really is hard to beat the original Black Pearl.  The new Black Pearl Reactive is proving to be an outstanding ball also.

Honestly if you like the reaction that the Hornet and Buzz are giving you, then the Sting should be a logical ball for med-heavy.  For a fourth ball a 2nd Buzz with a different layout and a bit more surface to handle true medium.

As far as alternate theories, I've had good success with both the Insect line and the World Class line, so your 4th ball might be a World Class Particle Pearl, or as j1kjvan said -- the Black Pearl if you want a ball with a signifigantly larger differential.

Hellbound, I think if I was you I would get a Terminator for sure... www.cheapbowlingballs.com has em for 114 or so. You cant go wrong. I think they are great. And then I would get a Black pearl as mentioned above. I have not been able to throw one but Id say from what I hear there awsome! The Black Pearl could use some surface to use on the oiliest conditions and keep the terminator for med/heavy conditions. Have the Buzz of course for Med. and the Hornet for the dryiest conditions you encounter.

From my experience, I am not impressed with the Rebellion and I think theres alot of people just like me. It maybe layout and condition specific, I dont know. But I can say I have thrown a Terminator and that ball was incredible! All LM balls seem to be great so just do a little research and buy with confidence. The XS Power is another good choice, with some surface maybe stronger than the terminator at the box finish. Both of these balls are going for like 220$ or so for both. If you didnt want to tie up alot of money then this would be the way to go! Hope this helped, John

Thanks for all the help guys...
Looks like I'll go for the Terminator....not sure about getting Sting as well(particle balls havent worked well for me previously).Leaning towards WCPP.

Terminator
WCPP
Buzz
Hornet.

Should cover most conditions with these

I meant the World Class Particle Pearl is also a Particle ball.  Sorry, not thinking.

aaah, but both being particle balls one heavy and one light loads doesn't mean that they don't/won't work for HB.  He may have had not so good luck w/particle balls from another company, but not LM.  Plus, if everyone here has good things to say about the Term/WCPP, there's something to be said about that.  If they don't work initally for him, there's always a touch more polish available to . . . facilitate a better reaction, especially if he's on the slower end of slower/moderate speed.  But if he's bowling on med-heavy, he probably won't have to do much changing at all -- but particles + light oil w/no surface adjustments = corner pins beware/headpin completely safe.

Better he knows what he's getting. If he's already had problems with particle balls, there's little sense in testing a $240 ball to see if what someone else says is right.

Of course, all Lanemasters/Legends balls respond well to polish AND all surface changes, I've only been preaching that for 4+ years now.

Combine those 2 items and that's why, Hellbound, it is always better to try a used Lanemasters ball first. See if you like their reaction and see what drilling might suit you as a starter and see if the ball needs any surface adjustments. If you combine all three and can make good use of it, then go buy some new ones.  Unless, of course, you're rich to start with  ... then go buy 5 of them and have fun.
