What condition is the Big Bang best for?
« on: July 10, 2006, 06:22:25 AM »
Can it be used as a heavier oil ball?  I'm looking for something above my Doom, to replace my Big One.  Is this ball strictly for the medium stuff?

With the same drill, it should be be earlier than the Big One.

What it handles depends on the drill and your hand. Basically, and in general, it's a medium-heavy oil ball, not medium.

If you have medium revs, with a mild drill it should handle medium oil.
If you ave medium revs, with a medium drill it should handle medium-heavy oil.
If you have medium revs and high ball speed, with a medium drill, it shoudl handle medium oil.
If you have high revs and average ball speed, with a medium drill it should handl emedium-heavy to heavy oil.
and so it goes.

Sounds good.  I'm getting rid of the Big One due to inconsistency, though I think it's more my fault than the ball's.  I just don't seem to match up well to assyms, I think I'll stick with symmetrical stuff for the time being.

It sounds like the Big Bang will fit nicely, then.  I want something that can handle the oil that the Doom cannot, and also that can turn the corner from inside.  I'm also lacking a particle ball in my arsenal right now, and I've heard great things about Legends/LM!

I'd be VERY surprised if the Big Bang could not handle more oil than the Doom.

A word of caution here. The BB and the WC, while being relatively very strong balls, have a relatively low RG differential. That implies they do not flare a lot. So how far inside you can play them depends on all the usual factors: hand, ball speed, oil pattern, drilling and HOW FAR INSIDE you want/need to play.

4th arrow should be no problem for medium rev and not high a ball speed. Further inside than that may depend on the other factors.

If you wanted a ball for 5th arrow and medium heavy conditions,  I'd be inclined to recommend an older (not old) Legends ball, the Yeah Baby! It doesn't get all the hype that the newer ones get, but it is also a huge backend ball (for me anyway) and it has lots more RG diferential and, thus, more flare. Its power, to my eyes, is absolutely devastating.

Of course, I am not saying the Big Bang won't work. You just must be aware of the nature of the BB, the WC and the Big Kahuna (another favorite of mine): they have lower RG differential; so their power and strength come mostly from the coverstock. Older balls (not old), like the Yeah Baby and the New Standard, has strong covers and strong cores.

Inside for me is fourth arrow, at the most.  I still don't have the guts to try and throw it over the fifth arrow or further, and I don't have a lot of hand, either.

I called my driller to confirm, my PAP is 4 1/2 over and 1 up.  I honestly don't even know what that means, though.

Your PAP describes where the pull line is, which direction your fingers are travelling as they impart lift and rotation to the ball (you pull with your fingertips).  The PAP is the point on the surface of the ball about which the ball rotates as it comes off your hand (there's also a NAP, the negative axis point, which is on the other side of the ball).  That PAP probably gives you a medium track, some axis tilt but not as much as a low-track bowler.  Low tracks tend to help push the ball downlane more, high tracks tend to move a little earlier.  Medium tracks are somewhere in between.
