Black Pearl.... particle, hybrid????/
« on: April 27, 2011, 03:52:44 AM »
 I just drilled this ball....

Trying to find out what the coverstock is, and surface....seems to have a "particle quality" to it.

I want to take the polish off of it.

any help would be appreciated....

The original Black Pearl is a particle. There is a non-particle version but it will say "Black Pearl Reactive" instead of just Black Pearl.

The original does have a "gritty" texture to the surface, even when polished. It is super aggressive if it's not polished.

there are 2 version of the black pearl. A particle (first version) and a reactive (second version). What color is the engraving on the ball? White is particle and goldish is reactive....maybe Pat Patterson will have more input on this.....

As far as I know, Milo and Sikfish have it right. The only current hybrid I know of is the Sting Widowmaker. It's a solid/pearl hybrid with a medium load of particles.

Thanks guys.
I turned the ball over and under "Traction" it says reactive.
Anyone know what the factory surface (OOB) is at ?

Does the label say The Black Pearl inside a circle or does it have The Black Pearl Reactive?

If it has the original colors, the Particle one is silver letters, the Reactive is gold letters.

I think my original Black Pearl has XLP traction reactive or something like that on the coverstock label.

The factory coverstock prep for the Black Pearl is Grey Pad (800 grit) then polish to 1500 grit and a lite application of a white pad.

For the Black Pearl Reactive, it's Grey Pad, then polish to 1500 I think. Your best bet would be to call Galen at LaneMasters and he will explain exactly how they do it.

The Original Black Pearl is a Particle/Pearl, it has the Black Pearl Logo on the side in white and it does say Traction Reactive XLP on the top logo where the Serial # is.  This is 800 grit and a ton of factory polish.

The Black Pearl Reactive is a Reactive Pearl, it has the Black Pearl Logo on the side that says "Reactive" under "Black Pearl" and is done in gold lettering and it says Pearl Traction Reactive (no XLP) on the top logo where the Serial # is. This is 1200 with factory polish.

Thanks, Pat.

Its says: Traction Reactive XLP
Black Pearl is in a CIRCLE, no REACTIVE.
So it's 1500, w/a ton of polish.
I just hit it lightly w/2000 Ab pad...
I needed to get the ball to start up a hair earlier.

I just hit it lightly w/a 2000 Ab pad.... I'll see if that bleeds a little energy...
It was unbelievably long and strong.
thx.
