Is it safe?... Big Bang + green scotchbrite
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:44:25 AM »
Has anyone green scotchbrite-ed w/water by hand your OOB BigBang? Did you like it? Is it safe for the coverstock? Or no noticeable change? Sometimes I bowl at conditions where I struggle with my BB (oil conditions because my UltraZone skates more than my BB). Thanks in advance for your comments.

The green scotch-brite pad (600 grit) is basically between the maroon(320-400 and gray pad (800 grit) pad that they supply with their current Legends line, older Lane Masters, like the Big Bang used to include them NIB.  The green pad should be just fine.  I like using them with the Legends cleaner instead of water, I think it cleans/works better.

Yes, I used green scotchbright on my Big Bang regularly, though I used a ball spinner.  The BB coverstock is fairly hard so you won't see a big change in how it appears.  It shouldn't change the look you get on the lanes a significant amount, but it helped my BB cut through carrydown better.

It's safe but rather drastic, seeing as how the green is 600 grit US scale (CAMI). By hand, try hazing about 1/2 the ball to remove the "sheen" with either a green or a grey nylon pad (800 grit US scale).

Let me suggest trying 2000 Grit Abralon pad (~1000 grit US scale) or its equivalent. The stock surface, Lanemaster's "sheen", is roughly equivalent to 1500 grit US scale.
