My Big Bang really is a Big Bang :D
« on: April 25, 2006, 05:42:14 AM »
Hi i am always saying how great this ball and how much i love the hook and hitting power, well i was using it the other day side by side with another ball that weighs in 15 lb 1 oz. I was thinking wow this new ball sure feels alot lighter than the big bang, so i went home and looked at both balls boxes the Big Bang is 16 lb 0 oz. . I have not thrown 16 lb equipment in 5 years but since i am not hurting from using it and the carry is really better, i will be adding few 16lb balls in once in awhile. I think i did not notice because i shoot every spare including 10 pins killing my roll, in the past i would switch between a 16 lb strike ball and 15 lb spare ball messing up my timing.

My conculsion is my shop screwed up but i am glad they did this time, i can really see the hitting power difference and my timing is better from the ball weight. I weigh in about 250 lb on 5 foot 8 so i am still strong upper body wise, i find i cannot overpower a 16 lb ball like i do with 15lb. I was not sore at all and i wonder maybe if my sore elbow might be from overpowering the 15 lb equipment. I had considered moving down too 14 lb from elbow pain but i am thinking it was more from being able to really muscle the 15 lb ers. So thanks pro shop guys for messing up  and drilling a 16 lb ball, i know they read my posts so you guys are off the hook eating a ball hahaha

FWIW, I find that I can easily use a 16 lb ball while practicing in the morning or the afternoon. I can throw it quite firmly, if needs be. BUTTTTTT in the evening or even 2nd shift leagues, I find a 15 lb ball to be all that I can handle.  (Will be 60 next birthday). Odd ... but that's life.

I also find 16 lb balls help my timing and hit much harder for me, with less effort. I can throw 15 lb balls through the breakpoint more easily and they do not fall off my thumb the easy and great way that 16 lb balls do. I only have 4 or 5 16 lb balls remaining because I don't use them very often anymore.

It was at 10 am i am thinking the same thing here just add a 16 lb er every once in awhile for the 1 st shift league, then move down by game 3 or just use 15 lb er's for the 2 nd shift league. I can see why WRW went back upto 16 lb i have not noticed the hitting power difference because it has been 5 plus years since last rolling them. I also felt i was more in tune timing wise the ball feels smooth coming off my hand, i did try one 14 lb once i still own it talk about throw through the breakpoint. I think with the 14 lb ball i was in the low 20's on strike balls, i am at 17.5 - 18.5 with 15 lb ers. So maybe i will be in the 16-17 mph range with 16 lb which will give my ball time too react better. This will be an interesting experiment too use this ball more and see if elbow pain does not return, i believe the last time i used 16 lb balls my span was way too long and the pitches killed me. So it proves that with the right grip even a heavier ball will come off your hand effortlessly, i had no clue for the last few weeks using the 16 lb ball. The almost 1 pound difference between switching balls every frame made me take a look at the boxes, it shows how dumb i can be haha

I'm getting used to me new Big Bang and World Class too; both have that LEGENDARY hit and crunch sound when it crushes the pocket. I have the BB in an OOB condition ... it goes long and TURNS the corner; I've found that I can ease up on the ball speed to and actually swing it !!!
The WC is very strong as well ... I've had to take it up to 1000 abralon to separate it from the BB and may even take it to 2000 and/or hit it with a light coat of LEGENDS Factory Finish polish; the revs up so well in the midlane that I want just a bit more "push" without any loss of backend.
 More later on both ...

Man, I LOVE this game; and I love it even more now that I'm using LEGENDS/LaneMasters balls ... Master the Lanes with Legendary hitting power !!!

Barry,

I've also found the core differences between 15 and 16 lbs balls (may) require entirely different drillings to get the same ball reaction, ball path and oil handling ability. I've had 16 lb-ers react very different and negatively from desirable 15 lb balls, and have had 15 lb balls react different from 16s.

Charlest thanks for the great insight i will keep this in mind if a great deal in a 16 lb ball comes up that i like in 15 lb. I have never thought of this being the case, i can tell you one thing the 16 legend Big Bang hits harder than anything else i have thrown ever. The 15 lb Legends/Lane Masters hit great too but that extra pound of core weight is amazing, the Big Bang crushes the rack. If you dig up my old post about it you will see i said that i left not a single 10 pin which might be the 16 lb difference for me. I hit the pocket at least 80 percent of the time, so maybe my carry percentage will rise up to mid 60 percent area, i am probably at 48-52 percent right now by guessing i get tapped all night long no matter what ball i throw. I had 8 taps in a row a few weeks back never missing the pocket making small moves, i would leave corners then 4 pins and no matter what it did not matter. I believe the ball never gets into a full roll and i get tapped even though i hit the pocket, i can split boards if needed but my carry is below average. This might be a great mistake to happen to me, i might have figured out why i am getting tapped with sometimes great hits.

Sorry JDT they were called about the mistake yesterday you are mistaken, it was weighed up yesterday on my postal scale at work it comes in after drilling at 15 lb 9 oz roughly without calibrating the scale. You can come to sunset lanes sunday morning and see for yourself if you would like too, i have no reason to lie about a mistake that i am not even mad about.

Charlest if you think 15 lb legends hit you will notice the lack of taps throwing a 16 lb er. This ball crushes the rack shot after shot, i threw it last night again i feel the difference and have to roll it. Funny that you cannot tell this until you realize the ball is one pound heavier.
