3 balls
« on: April 13, 2006, 01:34:33 AM »
Hey Legion ......

Can you suggest a 2 ball league combo, and/or a small 3 ball arsenal?

notes:
 1)I don't see extremes

 2) please tell me which ball is from which line too, I'm not 'that' familiar w/ L/L stuff ...but I am interested!

For smoothness, for medium-light to medium-heavy, my feeling is that you can't beat my two favorite Lanemasters balls: the Lanemasters Absolute Power and Legends New Standard. I'd keep the NS to about a 4"pin but given the strength of the AP, I'd suggest a 5" pin, as I have mine (but I added an extra dose of polish to mine).

Jeff.....so the AP is pretty strong then......is that the reason for the 5" pin ? Above or below? CG out or stacked ?

Note: for most Lanemasters balls, I find placing the pin higher than the bridge area (e.g. above the ring finger) adds length and forces the ball to only be capable of handling a lesser degree/amount of oil.

OK< this tells me that below would be best ?

Thanks as always.....

What is box for the NS, and what would you suggest as a grit if not box.  I foresee the AP at 2000 abralon.  It's a nice med-light to lighter cover prep 'for me' .....

thoughts?

The find the AP fairly strong, mine has pin just below center of bridge, CG kicked out about 1 1/4" from grip line. No weight hole.

All the LM/L solid particles, AS FAR AS I KNOW, are finished like this: High gloss polish folowed by a grey nylon pad.

Don't sand the pearls until you have tried them several times. I added some polish to my AP. I have 2000 grit abralon on my Masterpiece to make it hook earlier than the stock polish; I had to take it to 4000 grit to make it slightly earlier and less fippy - still makes a very hard turn. At 4000 grit, my MP is almost stronger than my NS at 2000 grit. I say "almost" because it may have been the oil or the lane surface at one place where I found this; so that result is only tentative.

Guys,

I've spoke to Galen with all my info ....and I've decided that I would add 2 balls to my 2 Hercules and get rid of my Mayhem.  So, I'd go with a 4 ball arsenal, 2 Mo, 2 L/LM.

After discussing,.....he suggested that not only was the NS and AP a good fit, but...he also said that a WC and a Masterpiece would work nice as well.

I'm going to be following up with him soon to go over more details but just wanted to let the Legion know what's going on.

More suggestions are welcome

Suggestion: don't get rid of ANYTHING, until you're 100% positive about the replacement, nomatter which ball and which brand it is.

I'll take that suggestion!! Thanks!  However.......I was going to drop the Mayhem before considering L/LM.  It's a nice ball, but nothing special like my Hercs.
