Recently got an NS2, a silly question if you don't mind.
« on: March 13, 2009, 08:22:09 PM »
As the title says, I was able to track one of these babies online.  However it came with 4 5/8 long pin.  Is it possible to still drill this ball within legal limits?  Am I limited to certain layout because of the pin length?  I would appreciate any help greatly.

That pin length won't stop you from doing any layouts, you may just have to use weight holes to counter out the topweight found in the CG.

What's the starting top weight?  Have you confirmed both the top weight and CG location?  If the top weight is below 2oz, you can do almost anything you want with the ball.  Put the pin wherever you want to, as though it were a more reasonable length.

If the top weight is more than 2oz, then you may have to be more careful about where the CG ends up.  You may need to go with a higher pin placement to keep the CG closer to the midline.

But a 4 5/8" pin length isn't the end of the world.

the top weight is 3 oz, so I guess that limits my options.

Geez, man, 3oz.  That's rough.  Yeah, that ball's no good.  Why don't you send it to me and I'll make sure it gets disposed of properly.

Really, you're only in the sense that you may not be able to swing the CG 4 or 5" from the grip center without needing a crater of a weight hole or putting the pin real low below the finger line.  You can still have the CG below the midline, you'd just need to drill the thumb a little deeper to compensate for the extra thumb weight.

So basically I can't have a pin under fingers, cg kicked out. Got it
What's a good kind of layout for this ball since i'm not drilling this myself?
I've heard from some people here that drilling an ns2 aggressive might be too much.  Should I get it driiled for length or label?  And is it possible with this pin length and top weight?

I also got my NS² for little money from a pro shop sales online, and it came with a long pin, even though I wanted it to be an oil ball with a pin-under-the-fingers layout.

I was warned from BR.com users to put an aggressive/rolly layout on it - and righteously so. I made the best of my options and put a simple but strong label drilling on mine (CG in palm, 1/2" to the PAP, pin ended up at 10:00 above the ring finger, about 4" from PAP), and it is an excellent oil piece because it has lots of mid lane action with a tame and controllable back end. It suits the ball very well. Could also be an option for your ball, very simple solution, and effective.

The ball has LOTS of traction, even with the sheen OOB surface. A low pin will have it roll REALLY early, and unless you are deadly speed dominant I must say that the fellows around here were absolutly right!
