I use both balls. My Black Diamond is not near as strong as my Sting WM. The shot shape is also very different. The BD has a very angular shot shape, very hard off the friction with little read of the heads and only a little of the midlane. Very unusual for a solid particle ball, but I have to say it's the most angular ball I have used from Lane Masters including the original Buzz. The Sting WM is one continuous hook to the pocket. Nothing fancy, just one big arching move from around the end of the heads, through the mids with a nice pop off the friction.

For me, the Sting WM is better for heavy or longer oil than the DB, with the DB really showing its stuff when the shot starts to break down or there is a bit of carry down and you need that extra recovery at the break point. The Sting WM works best on fresh as it seems to temper down the effects of over/under where the DB can make it much worse, depending on how much hand you have.

Your mileage may vary!

Just a mention, I should have the Black Diamond Particle Pearl this weekend.

Getting a Sting WM drilled out tomorrow, need to decide what pattern to use and would like some insight if anyone can help out? My Black Diamond Solid has a great look, I expect the SWM to be a bit less aggressive but I'm not sure at this point. Can anyone advise what the look will be if I drill the SWM the same as the BDS? Will it go longer, have less overall hook? Anyone with experience of throwing both ball? Thanks in advance.

To clarify, when I said solid I was referring to the BD reactive ball and not the solid particle. My reactive has the stronger move of the two. Both are clean through the heads and the particle will move off the dry where the reactive will be less angular but stronger than the particle. I'm hoping the Sting WM will fit between them when the reactive starts to jump and there is more oil than the particle will handle. In the two houses I bowl in the oil is longer with shorter back ends and the BD particle needs dry to make a read and move to the pocket where the reactive with a similar drill reads earlier and stronger.

Got my SWM this week. Beautiful ball. I drilled it 60X5.5X40. This puts the pin above the middle finger, cg slightly right of center line. I am right handed. My center uses the white#2 pattern. This pattern "feels " dry to me. I threw three games in league last night. The 5.5" pin to pap allowed me to go pretty straight with the boards. Carry was decent. after the second game I was able to open up (12 to 5) with a little harder hit. This ball with this drilling doesn't like oil much. It rolls very smooth. It hits and carries well. The pin were flying horizontally across the deck. I threw my Hornet (label leverage) on the same shot and the SWM was about 4 boards stronger. I think that the smoothness of this ball allows you to use a stonger drill pattern if you want to open the angles up.

Just drilled up my WidowMaker i bought of BR.com used, only had to plug fingers. Ball also had Vise IT which is a first for me too. So i had a thumb made and tried it out. Ive tried the Turbo Switchgrip and didnt like it at all so i was a little skeptical with the Vise IT. As practice drew to an end, i grew confident in my thumb and the WidowMaker was rolling nice and strong so i decided to throw it. Its amazing the carry i got from it. Pins flying sideways unlike any other lanemasters/legends balls i have, which i have 3 BlackDiamonds and an Ultimate Power. Not a real skid/snap reaction, just a real strong arc and tremendous recovery and carry. Ended up shooting 228-234-267/729 series. Ball is drilled pin next to ring(on the lower side), and the CG is stacked below.

Good to hear that ball is working for you. I just didn't have a place in my bag for it, so it's nice that someone is getting use of it!
