Looking for advice on my first Lane Masters purchase

Well, i've been bowling with Hammer equipment for the last 1.5 years, and i'm ready to move on a different company. I've had plenty of success with hammer, but i am looking into trying another ball company. I've heard alot of great things about Lane Masters, so i thought "why not?". Anyways, i'm trying to figure out what would be a good benchmark ball to start with from Lane Masters. None of the pro shops in my area carry LM/L or even know anything about the balls. I usually stand around 20, and roll the ball from 15 out to the 7-8 board. Thats my comfort area, but i can adjust as needed. I have a ball speed of around 15mph, revs are about 250, and i have about a 45 degree axis rotation. The lanes i bowl on are full-synthetic, with a 39 ft. medium-heavy christmas tree pattern for a league shot. What would be a good ball for me to start with? Any advice would be really appreciated.

The current general benchmark is the XS Power, with the newer, clightly more expensive Terminator Rebellion a close, but more expensive 2nd.

Change the surface as needed; Both are solid resins.

I've only had the chance to see 4 of the L/LM balls so far. But I am very impressed with the Buzz.

I have the Big Bang, The Buzz, an old Yeah Baby and now The Hornet. Out of all of these I would have to say that the Buzz (only thrown about 6 balls with the hornet) is the best hands down. Probably one of the most versatile balls I have ever thrown.

I agree with Charlest, the XS Power is a fantastic benchmark, and the new Rebellion as well.  If you want the full LM experience, go with the Terminator Rebellion, cover to the core etc. I am in no means putting down the XS, but the rebellion is a winner if I ever saw one.  The World Class Pearl Particle would also be a great choice for a med/heavy condition, and its pretty.

I would drop the few extra bucks for the Rebellion.  In my opinion (and it's just an opinion) what gives Lanemasters/Legends balls their legendary hit is the coverstock that starts from the core.  The lesser expensive LM/L balls now use filler between the core and coverstock...I haven't thrown one yet, but I would presume that there may be a slight reduction in hitting power.

i would have to also say that the 2 out right now in the current lineup would be:

the buzz

and

rebellion

it really depends on how much oil you see... both balls should cover a wide range of lane conditions. (my friends are always switching balls... I bring one ball and get a higher set every time... 693 on monday with a buzz)

in a nut shell these balls both are versatile and could stay with them longer then most balls. at least thats what ive heard of about the rebellion and i know its true of my buzz.

While the Buzz is an excellent ball (I have two now), it is not and will not be a true "benchmark" ball unlessyou modify the surface AND put a control drill on it UNLESS you're a stroker or have a very end-over-end release.

It is designed as a flippy ball and reacts as such with all the normal drillings. Put on a 105 degree drill or  put the pin 2" or less from your PAP and DO NOT put it above the bridge and then maybe you'll have some degree of control, enough to use it as a benchmark ball.

My first one was a skid flip ball unless I sanded it back down to 800 and added the lightest of polishes that I could on it. I still don't regard it as a benchmark ball.

FYI Just because a ball is the first one out of your bag on your lanes does not necessarily make it into a benchmark ball. Just because it's your best carrying or most powerful ball doesn't make it a benchmark ball.

i totally agree charlest... perhaps some of us should be more specific next time...

for me the ball is drilled at least a 5" pin to pap distance (just above my ring) and is wet sanded with grey scotchbrite. definatly not drilled or surfaced to flip.

so maybe i was wrong to call the buzz a benchmark ball. but for the surface i have on it it is my personal benchmark ball.



its like ive seen you write before... not every ball is going to work OOB... dont be afraid to change the surface.   (or something to that effect, im guessing it was you as you are one of the best on surface adjustments on BR)

what i meant by benchmark ball when i posted it was a strong ball with a OOB finish and control drilling.

That's, in general, not the definition of a benchmark type of ball. But if that's what you want, what do YOU mean by a "Strong ball"?

the buzz is much stronger than i anticipated and it is my benchmark ball, first ball out almost everywhere and usually one of the 2 i have are the ball i throw no matter what.
