FWIW and IMHO ... the New Standard,
 Get a layout "match up" from Galen Gentry and then adjust the surface for versatility with the proper grit scotchbrite pad (400, 600, 800, or 1000), then polish with Factory Finish polish (or equivalent) or Extended Length polish (or equivalent) for desired reaction.

I agree with Laybzz.
The NS with a light coat of polish, I mean light is your safest bet among the Legends line of balls. I've "fooled" with the NS in 15 and in 16 lbs and it's as versatile as they come and very smooth. The stock surface would be slightly early and require more oil than a Sapphire zone. But it responds very well to polish BUT you don't need much. A medium strong drill, say 4" pin to PAP with the CG kicked back toward the grip center for  sense of control (because it can flare a LOT).

Beyond Legends balls, the Dyno-Thane NE10 and the Track Heat Blast are close to the smoothness of the SZ with the ability to handle today's oils.

New standard or horizon solid which is way cheaper but a very very good midline ball.
