Buzz Attack Review
About the ball: 15 lbs, 2 1/2" Pin, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2", pin below and right of ring finger, CG in the thumb positive quadrant, weight hole just right of PAP, 3/4 oz positive side weight, 1/4 oz thumb weight, 1 oz top weight after drill (3 oz prior to drill).
The Buzz Attack (BA) is Lane Masters’ most recent release. It would be natural to think of the BA as the replacement for The Buzz but, to me, this is not the case. Compared to The Buzz, the BA features a lower radius of gyration, a higher differential RG, and a stronger surface due to the mica in the reactive cover. The construction is also different in that the Buzz Attack utilizes a core, a core wrap/filler and a couple of inches of the Endurance Micron Pearl coverstock while The Buzz is a true two-piece ball featuring a core and coverstock only. The trade-off is a higher differential RG for a lower coefficient of restitution. The result of all of this is a ball that is a natural on medium conditions with a range of medium-light to medium-heavy.
In comparison, The Buzz covers the light to medium range. To me, the Buzz Attack and Terminator Rebellion cover the same territory, with the Buzz Attack a touch more “flippier†and the Rebellion a touch more “rollier.†I’m already missing The Buzz as now there is a big hole between the Buzz Attack and the Hornet. (Hopefully my Buzz continues to exhibit a long life).
Looking at the glass half-full, The Buzz Attack is a good baseline ball. If the box 1200-grit sheen is too much, the coverstock polishes easily for lighter patterns. I’m using my Buzz Attack instead of my Black Pearl Reactive on shorter patterns when the BPR is too much on the back ends. I could see using the Buzz Attack as part of a two ball arsenal along with a Dynamic Power for the heavier patterns. Add a Hornet as a third ball and you would have the entire range of conditions covered.
