Black Pearl or World Class solid?
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:42:01 PM »
For those that have owned both the BLACK PEARL and WORLD CLASS SOLID, which do you like better and why?  Which ball is stronger?

Do you mean the World Class Particle solid (WC) or the World Class Reactive solid (WCR)?

The WC is much earlier and handles more oil than the Black Pearl, UNLESS you sand the BP. The WCR should go longer and handle less oil than the BP.

I'm talking about the blue WC.  The particle one.

Buddies has some good vids of the lane master balls.  The BP and both WC balls looked really good.  I really like the BP. A friend of mine has one and it rolls great.  Very hard arc reaction.

Hey, remember the BP is polished, as it comes out of the box. If it doesn't hook early enough to handle the amount of oil you desire, you can always rough up the cover in any number of ways. I didn't like mine probably because I drilled it too weak; so I scuffed it to 1500 matte, leaving a tiny glimmer of shine. It was much better that way, FOR ME.

On the other hand, (a bit of irony here), I drilled my WC too strong and tried to polish it (OK, I'm feeling kind of dumb actually admitting to this, but that's the way we learn.) and never got it where I wanted it to be. And so the experiments continue ...

Gulp, I'll find out if I drilled up my BP too strong tonight, I stacked it w/ 3/4" side weight.

I own both the WCP drilled 4 x 3 and Black Pearl drilled 2 1/2 x 5.
I bought the WCP first and it was a little too early and strong
for our Xmas tree 40ft.pattern (even after I sanded it to 2000grit), but worked great on longer walled shots for me. I then bought the Black
Pearl and put a more controlled drill pattern and left it with box
finish and it is great on my league shot. These give me two
different looks. The WCP is definitely the stronger ball for me, and it
is a lot of fun when I have enough oil to throw it on and can really
open up the lane.

chitown,

I have a Black Pearl and it is a very good ball. It is slightly sooner reacting than my No Mercy and it hits about the same. I have the NO MERCY at 2000 abralon, the Black Pearl is OOB.
If you want to try a LaneMasters/Legends ball I would try the Black Pearl.

I threw my BP for the first time tonight on a medium-light oil shot.  OOB, it has more backend, but a bit less overall hook, than my WCP with tons of games on it.  Both are stacked leverage, the BP has a 3/4" weight hole.  I'm roughing up the BP with the maroon scotch-brite and see what that does tomorrow in league.  Overall, so far so good with the BP, I really had a pretty worn out shot to play it on tonight, so I don't have a true sense of how this ball will play.  Having more speed than hand, I have to say initially that I have had better success with Legend's more rolly stuff, I've had both the NS2 and World Class.  That said, I'm starting videotaped lessons monday to work on my game, so we'll how my needs change as my game evolves.

I throw it way too hard, but I'm learning to muscle it less and less and slow down enough to catch it better at the bottom of the swing... ah, the work in progress.
