Ordered a Big Bang Today
« on: November 21, 2006, 03:24:21 AM »
LM/L junkies including Robb, Jeff and others.  Ordered a new 15 lb. Big Bang today.  Have had great results with my NS2 on sport conditions but did get rid of my BK and Masterpiece for what I use on THS. Just didn't match up well for many reasons.  MP because of layout I used and BK probably kept it to dull for the most part and the lane condition I mostly used it on.

Going to use the Big Bang first ball out of the bag to break down skittish release/speed lane conditons leave it OOB around 1000 <gray pad> sheen finish to keep the ball tamed down and hopefully get some decent carry on the fresh heavy mediums.

I won't be getting it for a bit as the guy I go to doesn't have any distributors that carry the LM/L line much so he may go directly to LM/L.  I'll report back after I get a few games on it.

Probably the best overall ball, the underrated world class reactive is second best in my hands. Totally different rolls and reactions too both but do yourself a favor and do not buy the big r bang, does not act anything like they claim it will. I am on the 3 rd surface change and it is another waste of 145 plus dollars for me after drilling, it is for sale if you or any else would like to buy it and try it for your style. 75.00 shipped and it will go too a new home.

I've had my Big Bang for about 3 weeks now. Drilled stronger than anything I have. Love it on a fresh pattern, just goes down clean, with a little loop and snaps hard. I do find it alittle squirty in the second and third games. That is the perfect time for my NS2, it ignores the carry down and hits hard. Carry on light hits with both balls is great. But I have found more forward roll helps that greatly.

I sold my Big R Bang too.
The chart says it has the most length of all the balls.
Mine hooked at my feet and was over under on the back end.

I've yet to throw any of their Reactive balls. I know somebody that has a WCR and he uses it on fresh league patterns, can be pretty slick. Backends are dry so he does well. So I would think the BRB would be good on this fresh too. I really enjoy my 1-2 punch of the Big Bang and NS2. Good combo. They are deffinetly a different throw, but I adjust. I used to do a 1-2 with a AP2 and NS2, much closer to the same look. The Big Bang has allot of back end pop, much more continuous. That might be due to the layout, but I like it.

Scott,

Given your release/delivery specs (very close to mine except for ball speed'my avg is closer to 15), I'm surprised the BK didn't work for you. Might have been oil pattern or drill. The BK has become my favorite.

The Big Bang is an oiler with built-in length; should do you well. If you're using it to becalm wet/drys, I'd wonder if a longer pin (4.5" - 5" ??) might not serve you well, as the ball usually needs considerable oil or a weak release (which you Do NOT have) to be successful.

Let us know how you drill it and the amount of oil on which you'll be using it.

Jeff,

I have been thinking about layouts and longer pin to PAP is something I am thinking about.  4" to 4.5" is that I am considering now.

As far as my release.  I have changed that quite a bit to drag type release ala John Jowdy.  Looks a lot like PDW's type of release finish open handed to make ball go longer and conserve energy on drier conditions inside this release is killer.  I use an end over end release when squared up and lanes are tighter with stronger equipment.  ie.  Tonight/Tues. night slide 19 down and in 5-6 board with a strongly laid out Track Inertia @1000 abralon.  The kind of lane condition most never see where you can play down and in with strong equipment.

Wed. night use my drag type release on a 2nd shift league burned track usually start with a pin under Radar and move to The One stacked leverage moving from third to inside 4th with this release.  Works great.

I'll never be a high speed player like 230 <well John  ain't a cannon but he's got decent ball speed> but it's been working pretty well this year as I picked up some ball speed by freeing up my arm swing.  Steve Richter a well known amateur Roto staff member from WI and Hank Boomershine Pres. of Roto helped me a lot this summer.

So, I think the Big Bang will work on heavier mediums hopefully.

The BK I didn't give a long enough chance.  Other balls were working better last year.  I hate to see good equipment lay around so I sold it to axewelder and he got a good deal.  I never sell balls for big $$$$'s.....so folks will feel like they got some good usability out of the ball.

I'll keep everybody in the know after I get her tuned up and try it for a few sets.

Good Luck, Scott!

Saw Jerry from Lake Ripley Lanes this morning and he informed me there's gonna be a Noon squad for the 3-man tourney.  Not certain how many weekends this will be in effect.  We're gonna hook up the first few weekends of the tournament.  Keep a couple of weekends open in Feb/March.  I've got at least one entry guaranteed for this tournament.  bass and I will snag someone from town or he'll corral a third from the Fox valley to bowl with.  We'll probably bowl at least two shifts when we're down there.  I'll keep you informed.

Though, I don't have my BB yet.  I do know quite a bit about the BW as I have a number of team mates that use it on different conditions.  The BW depending on the condition, your game and surface/layout will normally jump off the dry harder than I would imagine the BB would.  So, I believe it will fill the bill of what you are looking for.  Basic asymmetric vs. symmetric differences depending on layout, etc.

One of the reasons, I like LM/L balls for the most part is the hard roll they get into before they enter the pocket.  Easy to read.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Got the BB today along with The Buzz that I got from Elite Digger.

Laid out the BB per Galen Gentry's suggestion 4 1/8 x 3 3/4 75 deg. layout for heavier mediums X hole 1" below my PAP 7/8 oz. positive.  3/8 oz. finger weight.  I use Switch Grips on all my stuff now.  Pin winds up slightly above ring and right.

Laid out Buzz 5 x 4 90 deg. for lighter mediums and drier.  No X hole 5/8 positive.

Rolled them on leftovers no oil to about 17 board at the arrows.  BB in OOB surface beautiful even roll with my A release crossing 19-20 at the arrows to 10 and wow what a nice even roll to the 1-3.  Bit too dry to see the ability of this ball as we all know it's not made for the dry.  I am thinking now the No Mercy will be on the block.  We'll see.  As I tried a few shots with the NM for comparison's sake.  NM 1000 abralon which is what I have it at right now.  Fair comparison with BB OOB surface #1 layout.  NM slightly longer and quit more on the backend probably carry down.  BB nice even roll no quit a lil earlier but not bad.  I'll compare on oil and see.

Buzz OOB surface rolled it at 17 out to 9-10 and what a roaring ball back into the 1-3.  No quit.  Much like The One.  Think, I like the read I get better from The Buzz.....more oomph than my RG Mercury...which makes sense.

There was carrydown and it seemed to effect the NM but not the BB or Buzz.  I thought the Buzz would be effected.

As far as that goes symmetrical balls I can always read.  Asymmetric's not as well.

I'll report back after, I have used these balls a bit this coming week.
