hammer black widow or yeah baby?

for those of you who own both balls which would you recomend for heavier oil patterns, i already have two black widows and love them both, one has had a ton of games bowled with so is nt as hooky, brilliant on the longer short patterns, the second fairly new but drilled slightly weaker for those long medium. so i am tempted to get a third for that heavy pattern, owt do u guys think? i bowl at about 15-16mph with alot of revs. ive read up on the yeah baby and like the sound of that too, so any help would be grateful. im a steady 190-195 bowler and starting to get well experienced although still young. if u wanna know more about me and my bowling read my profile. thanks in advance for any help i recieve.

Having seen a whole bunch of BWs and having had a couple of Yeah Babys!, I'd say you'd have to take the BW down from its stock 4000 grit Abralon to about 1000 grit Abralon to make it compare to the YB!'s 800 grit sheen and heavy load of diamond particles. In their basic modes the BW is for medium to medium-heavy oil, while the YB is basically for medium-heavy to heavy oil.

Plus the BW has a mild asymmetric core.

Both can be manipulated with both drillings and polish and sandpaper "6 ways from Sunday" to do a lot of different things. (Doesn't matter that the YB is a heavy load of particles. Its core gives it length and strong backend for an oiler for the average bowler with an average drilling.)

so if i take the bw down to an 1000 grit it will be good for heavier oil? will it go long still with a shap backend? or do i just need to get a really reactive drilling on it?

If you have the revs you say you do and you don't drill it weak, it should handle much more oil at 1000 Abralon than it does at its stock 4000 Abralon.

Too many variables to say more than that.

I doubt it. Balls don't snap on true heavy oil.

On a ball for TRUE heavy oil, I'd tend to keep a pin in the 3-4" pin-PAP range and not put it high.

There's an up side and a down side for each choice.  For the BW, the up side is that if you don't like it, at least it won't last that long.  The down side is that if you do like it, it won't last that long.

For the YB, it's the opposite.  If you like it, you'll still like it three years and 800 games from now.  If you don't, you can send it to me and I'll put 800 games on it.

The YB is the best ball I've ever thrown.  I absolutely love mine.  Hooks on anything.  I had to polish it up with the Legends polish to make it usable at my house.  For a high-load ball with a (roughly) 4.5 x 3 layout, it has remarkable recovery from inside.

If you have two BWs already, whether you like them or not, it is more than worth it to pick up a YB.  It'll be different and I can hardly imagine being anything less than completely satisfied with it.  Nothing compares to a high-load particle ball on real heavy oil.

i dont know. i live in the uk, where i can still order them. i suppose if lane masters are still makin them for distribution in the uk you can order them still. howerevr the supplier i get them from might hav a massive stock still in from when they ffirst come out.

I don't think so. I'm 99% sure it's been discontinued. If you find one. keep it. It can be drilled and re-drilled and the surface changed until you find what you like, then it will just destroy racks. The same goes for the New Standard - gold, money in the bank!
