Title: Pin down balls?
Post by: rickywin on April 06, 2009, 06:28:56 AM
I just took a look at my arsenal and saw that all my balls all have their pin above my fingers or slightly to the right. This generally means more length correct? Am I at a disadvantage at not having a pin down ball? Does this depend on my PAP at all? What pattern is this layout ideal for?

The ball goes a little longer before that start to hook.
A pin down ball may be bad your you if you track high, it can cause the ball to roll over the finger/thumb hole. A pin down ball will roll a little bit earlier and smoother than a pin up ball.

For people with really high tracks (PAP horizontal coordinate closer to 6") will often times flare over the fingers with pin down layouts.

In order to avoid this trouble a balance hole can be places roughly 6 3/4" from the pin in the positive thumb quadrant to push the bowtie away from the fingers.
