need help choosing
« on: January 13, 2008, 10:22:11 AM »
im looking to get rid of the stuff i currently have as ive just pieced it all
together bit by bit and some stuff either never gets used or i dread using

current line up:

hammer no mercy (hate it... over under since day one)

lane 1 evolution - pretty good ball but polish wears off very fast and while i like the ball it leaves me feeling like its missing something

lane 1 carbide plus - drilled rico a fun ball but it never comes out of the house

lane 1 super carbide bomb - great for oil but i cant seem to repeat shots. it might be me but either way i feel the ball flares a bit too much for my liking.

brunswick target plastic

(my favorite ball "benchmark ball" was my purple pearl fuze. LOVED that ball. shot 804 and 300 with it both in the same month. but sadly it has been drilled too many times and its cracking around the thumb.)

so i could use some help building an arsenal of lanemasters balls as my pro
shop does carry them and i like the idea of all symm. designs with no filler just coverstock.
not that i feel it really matters, they (all companies) all hit hard

I was thinking of getting the buzz for my THS as the house i bowl at is sometimes medium but 75% of the time its on the lighter side.

what i do know is i need something for heavy oil. as i bowl for fun in a 2 game league and they really glob on the oil heavy.

basically i need help building an arsenal to combat different houses that i might bowl at (nothing too serious just some leagues)

id say im around 250 - 300 rev rate depending on speed
speed when im comfortable is 16 - 17 (usually around 16.5mph)
axis of 50 degrees or more

any ideas.

(all balls i listed will be for sale too)

quote:
no rockaway doesnt "stock" lanemasters.

im actually not near rockaway or middlesex. im in the middle. closer to jersey lanes, edison lanes, ehhhhh linden lanes. but i work up north so its not so bad if im already there.

charlest your right. no one seems to put out oil anymore. except hudson.

are you in nj as well clarlest?

my pro shop owner said he would take the bwp, gamebreaker... or even lane 1 vs any of the ;anemasters ball and perform better. i understand what he said.... but what if the gamebreaker and/or bwp s too much and leaves 4 pins or ringing 10's. I always say use whatever scores higher.

only problem i have with buying internet is my pro shop charges 50 bux for a full drill (slug/grips) so if i buy it for 152 it actaully costs 202!

most places seem to include drilling and a little markup (say 20 bux over internet) thats why i was trying to find one that had em in stock... but looks like i will have to find out what my proshop wants for an ordered one as they will probably include the drillng.

Send off your fav. ball to an online shop and have them copy your span so you can order your balls from them drilled and with whatever drilling you request... I'm in the same boat as you, my driller is charging right at $60 + a fee for a balance hole (an extre $13).  If it needs one i'm way above you!

I'm in Hillsborough, between Flemington and Princeton.
I usually bowl at Carolier (North Plainfield) and STrike n Spare (Greenbrook); have bowled at Curtis (Ewing/Trenton), Circle Lanes (Ledgewood) and Bowl-a-Drome (North Arlignton, just Sunday for the first time).
Practiced at Linden with some friends a few years ago; they put out oil back then. A good deal, on Sunday morning, anyway.

Still sounds like his experience with them is limited and he really doesn't know their balls.

Lm/L balls can score as easily as any of those. Depends on all the normal factors. You can prefer one of the other.

That's not abnormal.

As far as my experience goes, that is not true. I can get a Twisted Fury for $140 delivered. Show me the place who sells it for $160 out the door!
I do not believe you can.
Roto-Grip Neptune for $90; Who sells it for $110 out the door?

the closest ones to me that you mentioned are linden and carolier. but linden is ummm blah!

i actually live about 5-10 minutes from linden lanes.

ive seen places sell balls for real cheap but then they charge you a butt load for thumb slugs or grips. and they arent any good so they are obviously trying to get you into the pro shop.

i trust my driller (as a driller) but he also sells stuff. after all he is in buisness to make money not waste his time. I think he is/was trying to tell me that its not worth the price extra when theres so many balls that are cheaper.

that and he claims that lanemasters balls take a lot to resurface them... (may only be true for the older stuff?) but i dought he likes drilling through all that resin

right now im just deciding what direction to go in. one thing that is for sure is i want to stay away from these new backend monster balls. I have enough hand to create angle... leaving 4 or 9 pins isnt much better then leaving 10 pins.

ill have to think about my next purchases... dont want to do what i did last time.

Maybe it's true for him. WHether or not it's true for everyone else has yet to be seen. Maybe he sunconsciuosly prices them much higher than others?

They don't need to be re-surfaced very often.

and therein =lies a potential probelm. Most Lm/L balls are strong, with drillings and surface changes controlling them. That is why I ORIGINALLY SUGGESTED TRYING A USED ONE!
