Valentino Products on LM/L and a Comparison???
« on: September 18, 2008, 11:45:14 AM »
Here's my take on what I've done so far.  I wanted to do a comparison on my Legends NS2 and a Visionary Ogre Particle.  There are similarly drilled both relatively high load particle.  So, I took them to 800 with Valentino Resurrection.  I will say the Ogre Particle with it's 1000ab OOB finish looked duller than what I came up with after using Resurrection.  Granted rpm's on a single speed Vertex can get you a shiner than 800 finish but I have done about 4 balls now so I am pretty confident they look close to the same as pics on Kevin's website.  They have a nice sheen finish like to be very matte appearing and I was happy with the surface finish.

So, I go to a house noted for a heavier medium lane condition but still a THS.  Older Bruns. Pro Anvilane.  I take them both out and warm up with another benchmark ball a DT Black Solid Vendetta similarly drilled ball also that is about 3 boards weaker than both the NS2 and the Ogre Part.  I had done the Vendetta with Resurrection also.

I've been working on picking up my ball speed late summer pre fall season.  I am using more hooking stuff for the most part.

Results were the NS2 and the Ogre Particle I could not tell much difference except for a bit harder drive into the pocket.  I assume from the more flare and differential with the NS2.  I left two 9 pins in one game with the NS2.

I do like the finish that Resurrection left on my NS2 and for others looking for that sheen finish for a heavier shot...I'd try it.

Anybody use any Valentino Snake Oil on any LM/L pieces yet.  Underlying grit?  Surprises/good/bad?  I am tempted to take my Yeah Baby and put a more rough under surface and then Snake oil over the top.  Possibly the 400 grit pic on Kevin's website.  http://valentinobowling.com/photos.html  I like the looks of that.  My Yeah Baby is drilled to go longer and the YB is manufactured for more length than the NS2.

after listening to charlest and doing my own experimentations I find that some products are better left to hand applications rather then on the spinner.

for me resurrection was one that I much prefer to use by hand. the secret sauce and just about anything with a grit in it I prefer to do by hand. (except for powerhouse FF and compounds like storm... those require some burn in time on a spinner)

the only reason I mention this is you said it can leave a shinier surface then 800 and thats true... I can fully polish a ball with resurrection which is why I leave it to the hand as I cant accidentally leave a sheen that will cause too much skid.

I dont think theres anything wrong with using it on the spinner just be real careful not to break down the grit in it and not to induce heat.

Exactly and why I used the spinner sparingly.  I've done 4 balls now using Resurrection and look to me the same as Kevin's final surface.  Plus they react great which is what I was looking for.

I have a lot of experience using abrasive Storm Step 1, 2 & 3.  Much the same type of compound.

i used my "spinner" in the vidoe but i really apply valentinos products by hand. i think i've used the resurrection and snake oil all pretty much every ball i own (around 15 or so). i have a rag for each product. i can just wet the rag alttle and use it without applying any fresh product.

Scott,

Just a note of clarification: The Ogre Particle's stock surface is "1000 grit Abralon". Resurrection's "800 grit" is based, on the US/CAMI scale. 1000 grit Abralon = aproximately 550 grit on the US/CAMI scale. PLUS Resurrection adds that little bit of shine. So, near as I can see, Resurrection will be finer, as it does look to you and it should make the ball go longer than the stock finish, since it's about 60% finer.

Also I have used Snake Oil on a World Class Reactive. I took it to 4000 grit Abralon and then I used a Trizact white pad on it plus Snake Oil. I was hesitant to put too much SO on over the Trizact pad, but last night's ball burned up in the 3rd game. So today I am putting a stronger dose of Snake Oil on the ball.

I haven't tried in on any other LM/L balls yet.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't found a big difference between Snake Oil and Lanemasters own Factory Finish polish. Snake Oil seems to go on slightly easier and puts a shine on a ball quicker.

I second that.  I like Legends because you create a real wide range of shine and you don't risk overshining a ball if you go an extra few seconds on the spinner.  That also makes it a little of a pain to use because instead of being done in just a minute or two, you need four or five minutes.

I used Resurrection on my Yeah Baby to take a medium coat Legends polish off and it did so very fast.  I re-applied Snake Oil and it got to that medium level of polish in just a few seconds.
