Replacing AP2 with Big Bang?
« on: September 16, 2006, 03:08:33 PM »
I have an AP2 that I bought used from Laybzz. Had one redrilling when I got it, put another on it since. So it's been redrilled twice, one plug is on it's track now. Still works well, but I have lost alittle confidence in it and am thinking about replacing it with the Big Bang. The AP2 is usually the first ball out of my bag, but due to carry down and it's angularity; it only lasts about 7-10 frames on my leagues typical pattern. I don't bowl on many heavy patterns, but I do plan on a few tournaments this year.

Anybody have both the AP2 and Big Bang? If so how do they compare? Maybe even the Terminator.........

Any thoughts?

Terminator...all the way.

Big Bang is more for medium fresh patterns, and it needs to be drilled strong
World Class is another thought, yet it rolls sooner than the AP2
Terminator is the closest, but its a bit stronger... for medium heavy
Terminator is one sick ball...
Terminator and the Big Bang is the ultimate 1-2 combo for Heavy to medium oil

Balls for this winter season:

Terminator - Stacked - Heavy oil
Big Bang - Stacked - Medium to Heavy oil
Buzz - 1:30 Label - Medium to light
XXXL - Stacked -  Spare ball

I concur that the BB and "T" are a good 1-2 punch, but not the order that "HoG" stated (that's just my opinion), and the WC is just a beast !!!

Except he's got it reversed for the general public with average/medium revs: Big Bang for medium-heavy to heavy oil and the Terminator with its highly polished cover for medium to medium-heavy oil.

I meant to concur that those 2 ball are a good 1-2 punch; I've modified that thread to more accurately convey my meaning ...

I really already have my number 2 punch. My NS2 starts plenty early and basically ignores any carry down. But it doesn't exactly enjoy the thick stuff, works well for me from about the 8th frame of the first game on. I am looking to use the Big Bang as my first ball out of the bag for leagues or tournament shots, or for just plain slushiness. I am looking for something particle that is angular, goes long and just plain hooks.

BB or "T" then; you can always call or email Galen about this too, Justin.

Yeah I know, Galen will be my definitive answer man. But I am not calling him until I have money and the final decision is at hand. I am looking for overall views right now. I have found tons of helpful info from all of you fellow L/LM users. So that's the stage I'm at, trying to widdle it down to 2 balls.

I really want a reactive ball that just goes straight down and then comes screaming back to the pins(there is the source of my questions on the Big R Bang)....
But I am stuck on the idea of replacing my AP2 with something particle for heavy oil and stronger on the backend. So there inlies the question. Heavy oil ball to replace AP2?

Again, the BB or "T", just depends upon the shape that yours looking for ...

Personally, I would "lean" towards the Terminator; that Evolutionary P2 cover (dual-load particle) is strong, and you can always knock the shine/polish off or just play with the cover combos. I'm on my second BB, with one has a better layout for me, and I prefer the "T".

Just one man's experience and opnion ...

What's your experience with the "T"'s reaction. What type of shape do YOU get?

For me, it's very much like a strong reactive ... polish helps it get down the lane, and ten the particles really help it turn on the back ends; what's nice about it is that it's "swingable" and yet you can hold an "up and in" line too. Versatile ball !!! Oh ... and I have mine at 4000 abralon under that polished finish too ...

Interesting, Now polished with the 4000 under it, does it still handle heavier oil patterns? Or would you go down to grey for the heavy stuff? How does it handle carry down? and One last how do you have yours drilled?

My Terminator: 3 oz TW, 3 1/4" pin, 3 1/2 x 3 1/4 layout, 4000 abralon & polished, no WH (from my profile)

The lower the grit under the polish, the earlier the "read" of the lanes and the more oil that it'll handle; regarding carrydown, we don't normally run into much here, so I'm not sure.
