Title: Terminator vs. Mean Machine?
Post by: spinner031 on April 22, 2007, 10:12:50 AM
Any thoughts for heavy oil.  I also want to use my choice for the PBA sport shot leagues next season.  I don't have a lot of hand.

Both balls are, IN GENERAL, rather violent in their overall reaction.

That is NOT the type of ball you want to use on either a PBA shot or on a USBC-compliant sport shot.

IN GENERAL, one USUALLY needs a lower RG differential and a smoother breakpoint to conquer either condition.

Then what would you suggest as a ball for these types of things?

An NS2 a World Class or a SmashTime, or an Infinite One or a Fury or a Wizard, if you're looking for a medium-heavy oil ball that is non-flippy.

Is it possible that I could drill a Mean Machine for a smoother reaction, for example a pin under the ring finger, maybe under and between fingers.

What's the difference between World Class and Terminator? In the Lanemaster web page their graphs seems to be very similar.

Coverstocks and weight blocks are different, hence a different reaction potential.

Yes.  I just did.  short pin (use less than 2" if possible), close to PAP (mine is 1 1/4" from PAP), cg stacked.  Lots of midlane roll, not much backend reaction.  For fresh oil w/ squeeky clean back-ends.

Yes, of course.

for example a pin under the ring finger,

That's makes any ball roll earlier than THE SAME BALL withthe pin at or above the finger hole level, BUT ONLY compared to the same ball.

NO! Track's asymmetrics, like MoRIch's have the same amount of flare from leverage to around 5 1/2" pin to PAP to get less flare yo uhave to move the pin to within 1.5"- 2.5" of you PAP. Check with Rick, tenpinspro, or Carl,  C-G ProShop-Carl. They are the drilling experts.

Most, if not all,  balls can be drilled for a smoother reaction. Surface preparation will also contribute notceably to this.

charlest is correct. Pin under and between the fingers for myself is about 5 inches from my PAP and at this position I get a little sharper backend with more continuation vs pin under the ring. I use this layout when I play the lanes from inside out, or deeper.

NS2, Guaranteed, KONG ... select the proper surfaced ball then choose a good layout to match up to your stayle and for the pattern length.
