The Sting Durability???
« on: November 17, 2009, 04:00:34 AM »
I do not own the Sting, but am in the process of possibly purchasing one. Does any of you owners out there seeing loss in performance with this piece quickly, unlike the other LM/L.

I only ask this because, on bowling.com there are 2 reviews on this ball, both on the negative side saying they lost way to much perforance out of the ball to quickly, and cannot restore it. i know this is a possible grain of salt review, but maybe they do maintain there equipment and know about maintenance.

Anybody out there with a bunch of games on theres want to share how it is going for them, this ball has been one that has had my interest since I like the Buzz so much?

Unless I knew the 2 people who posted those statements, I would take that with a POUND of salt, not just a grain of ssalt. No one here on br.com has, in my memory, ever said such about the Sting or any other LM ball. I have had friends whose LM balls have lost performance over time, hundreds of games, but it was restored with normal procedures.

my teammate has the sting from 6 months and more than 100games on it and the ball work as the first time (he clean with a microfiber the ball after every shot, and sometimes he did a deep clean with his spinner).

Ive noticed actually this cover tends to lane shine easily, and fast. And actually got longer and more angular after this happened.  And its not just the factory finish because two weeks after i got it it got chewed on by the ball return monster and the proshop guy hit it with a fresh 2000 pad and again after about 6 games it shined up and got more angular.

I drilled one up for this season and had just the opposite reaction.
My ball seemed to go through a 'break in' period.
After about twenty games the ball came alive and is currently my favorite ball.
This ball was not designed on the 'sponge' principle so it ,by nature, should not suck up oil and lose reaction after a few games.
I suspect the negative reviews were from bowlers assuming, incorrectly, that because it is a particle ball it will lose reaction quickly.
In my case this is incorrect.

I also had a break in period for about 10 games, but it's my favorite ball now.  I've bowled ~50 games on it and no problems.  I don't maintain it as much as I should and I am not a bowling aficionado, but I do wipe the ball after every shot and I've washed it the dishwasher every ~20 games.  Really love the ball though.  Good luck!
