Same Layout on All 3

I'd like to get your opinions on laying out a Sting, Buzz and Hornet with the same layout.  Preface this by saying I have a Buzz that like a lot with my favorite layout.  Pin over ring 65 deg. CG under dual angle layout VAL to pin-PAP line 35 deg giving a total of 110 deg.  This type of layout works well for me on a majority of equipment that I've tried it. I used this same layout on the Vis. Gargoyle line back a few years ago with very good results.  Drilled 3 of them the same.  

Will they overlap?

Id say they would overlap eachother. It doesnt seems to be any major difference between them. I havent throwed any of them so you cant trust my oppinion
I like to atleast have some variation between my drillings, so i can get a different look.
My XXX, richochet rush and hot rod bybrid all hooks around the same amouts of boards. But my XXX rolls earlier and more even, My Rush kicks alot, while my Hybrid goes long and then arcs. None of the have the same drilling.

i dont think they will overlap at all. they all use the same core but very very different coverstocks. i have a buzz and a sting drilled exactly the same. the sting grabs the lane so much harder its very easy for me to use that first then when drives too hard to switch to the buzz move a couple boards right and stay in the same exact "zone" i was throwing before without it overreacting. i honestly think it would be a good idea. the coverstock is the biggest factor in the balls reaction. i'm actually opposite of azus i like to keep my drillings very similar with only variations in above or below fingers. robb has 2 hornets so hopefully he'll chime in sometime as i dont have a hornet.

Because they have almost the exact same core specs (same shape, very slightly different numebrs) and
- because the coverstock are fairly well differentiated, and
- because althought my Hornet and Buzz are drilled slightly differently, they seem to be set apart by enough, to my eye,
I believe drilling these 3 balls similarly should provide 3 different enough reactions and handle differing amounts of oil, such that they overlap closely to the right amount for them to complement one another properly.

In English, YES!

However, I remain wary of putting the pin above the level of the bridge on all 3 balls. But that's just me.

FYI I have seen that the Sting is flippier than the Hornet or the Buzz by a fair margin. (I have not yet thrown a Sting. Keep that in mind.)

In my opinion,
They will overlap at th eextremes of their oil coverage range, as they should. When you go from one ball to the next, in my opinion, there should be a small degree of overlap to allow for continuous coverage. They won't overlap in the sense that you can use one or the other for the entire range of coverage.

Under normal drillings, for average hand AND ball speed people, the Hornet will cover light to medium-light, the Buzz will handle medium-light to medium oil and the STing will cover medium to medium-heavy oil.

Thanks Jeff.  Those are my thoughts also.
 
BTW.....John Wonders started me on this.  Using the same layout on a line of balls.  

I'll report back.  Sting is being punched today this weekend and has the same specs as my Buzz.  Hornet is being ordered.  

Also drilling an Arrow to replace the Ole Blue Dot.

Funny. Although I do consider Lanemasters my basic line, I find myself using Visionary balls in my current league, Ogre solid and B/G Centaur.. Mostly just not enough oil, and the Buzz with its current drill doesn't work as well there. Worked great deep inside at another house in which I practiced with a friend.

And you, whom I consider a Visionary aficionado, are getting a bunch of Lanemasters balls.

Jeff,

I think for now I am liking most of my LM/L balls better than most of my Visionary balls.  Just matching up better lately.  The low differential Insect line with the strong covers should work.  The Buzz does definetly. All the reports on the Sting I've seen are very favorable.  

I can't complain with the 3 hundy on the YB last week and my NS2 is a great sport league ball for heavier.  

With either manufacturer you can't go wrong IMO.

I just got a Buzz.  Haven't bowled much with it, but I like it alot.  Great length with a smooth back end, not super snappy.  Sharper than the Terminator, but much less ball, about 6-8 boards.

Anne Marie Duggan drilled the Buzz for me.  I told her the next ball I want to go left really hard, she said Sting.  

I had also drilled a couple Hornets for customers before I left Houston.  They are pretty straight, not much back end motion at all.

I agree with Charlest, they should be pretty different from each other.  You could always modify the surface later to increase the difference in them.  I think you will like those balls.

I have the same layout on 4 different balls, and granted some of them are from different companies, but the core specs are the same for 3.  2 are Visionary, and 2 are Columbia.  Granite and Violet handle more oil and compliment each other very well (I can do what Phlap218 suggested about moving back right and staying in same zone).  I have an Icon300 and the violet to a degree was the replacement, and gave me the same read I wanted.  I later got the Granite cause the violet didnt handle as much oil.  The last ball is a FlipSide Panic and it is under the violet covering med/light and works the same with a very similar look to the first 2.

I really like the look they all give me, and I'd suggest doing that with your equipment if a particular drilling gives you a really comfortable look you like seeing.
