Did they drop grassroots level?  Cause that's all they had before.

The PBA only advises their members when certain equipment are no longer able to be used in competition.  There is no other information other than what I posted.  Oh wait, there is.  You also won't be able to wear Linds too!

as im a bowler from australia i cant see the sense in not allowing anyone to use any bowling equipement that has been sanctioned by the relevant bowling associations

gonzo,

It's not and never has been a matter of "sanctioning",in the manner we normally use such a word, as of meeting certain crieris.

It is no more or less a matter of paying the apparently exorbitant fees to ALLOW their use. So, it's strictly a matter of money.

The good thing here in Sweden is that you can use any USBC approved ball in all leagues and competitions..

Ah, then crocheting is what needs tour level approval. OK, I'm safe.

And that is the case in all non-PBA sanctioned competition.  I've never heard of a USBC sanctioned league or tournament where some USBC-approved equipment is not allowed.

When i bowled in a regional on labor day weekend, the director said that Lanes Master cannot be used from October to December 2008. Starting January 2009 is when their contract begins. So you can start using LM balls in PBA Regionals in January.

Good! I'm starting to really like my Terminator Rebellion.  In addition to the fact that I still have a blank Kong and a Black Pearl to drill.

I have being using Hanes. Is it illegal to wear also? If so which one should I use? Jockey, Fruit of the Loom..

How about Pete Weber's sunglasses? Are they illegal?

To me it sounds silly to pay in order to use certain equipment.

It is silly, but it's also called 'Sports Marketing'.

You can use any basketball in pickup games, but if you're in the NBA, your hands will only hold a Spaulding.

You can use any football you want on Saturday, unless you're in the NFL, then you're gonna use a Wilson.

The list goes on and on.....  Sports companies pay for exclusivity.  In individual sports where the fanbase is larger, and the money's more available -- (i.e. golf/tennis) then as long as the equipment meets the criteria -- it can be used.  Were bowling as accepted by the sports community -- the PBA wouldn't have to (trying to find a different word than extort, and failing miserably) dictate by fee-dom what companies can afford to have their toys on tour.
