What can I expect out of the Absolute Power?
« on: December 28, 2006, 05:48:55 AM »
My Aunt gave me hers, saying she couldn't get it to turn the corner.  (She averages about 175, but only bowls on a sport shot.)  So, what can I expect out of this ball?  Where would it fit in my present arsenal?  (Pain, BW, Doom)  Any advice on how to lay it out?  You can see me bowl with the Pain in this video:

I average about 180 on a THS right now, but I also bowl in ABT tourneys about once a month.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

BOB:  Did you see the way she was lookin' at me?
DOUG:  Yeah, because she thought you were some kind of freak!

Well, I haven't done anything with it yet, maybe I'll just sit on it or trade it.

FWIW, the AP is a VERY underappreciated ball in the "L/LM" line; I have seen and heard of other roomies that love it for as high as medium oil and down to medium-light, and I concur (I like it for medium-light). I have mine at 2000 abralon and polished, and this ball HITS; the carry is excellent when you get lined up, and it excels at carrying the light and half-pocket hits as well as flush and high flush.
IMHO, getting a layout on it that matches up to your style (revs, axis tilt and rotation, and ball speed) is very important ... I am on my third and THIS one is a keeper(see my profile for layout info and my stats); I sold the first one because it was a full plug/redrill and I didn't like having those plugs showing ... the replacement that I got was a dud due to the layout that I tried (4 x 4, pin in ring) and that one wouldn't "turn the corner", as stated in previous threads in this post. HOWEVER, that was a layout match up problem and NOT the ball.
Again, I believe it to be a GREAT ball ... with the proper layout, surface, and when used on the proper conditions. As always, I STRONGLY recommend a "chat with Galen at Legends vis a call or email to discuss "matching up".
 Good luck !!!

I really need to learn my axis tilt, rotation, revs and such...I only really have an idea of my PAP and ball speed.

I agree ... but the PAP and speed are a good start; a chat with Galen wouldn't hurt, my friend ... LMK if you need any help.

i have two of them.. one drilled pin below fingers (5 1/4 from my PAP) cg kicked out an inch and one with the pin only an inch from my PAP.. and the cg in the palm.. the one with the pin at an inch hooks a looot more than the other one.. it also hooks just a tad lower than my terminator.. overall its my second most hooking ball i have. this ball adjusts to everything such as drilling, coverstock prep, and wrist changes..

ya, i got an absolute from charlest that has a pin below ring finger, and it is probably in the top 3 most hopoking and powerful balls that i own. It is a beast on medium oil.

Basically between your Pain and Doom.  Closer to your Pain all factors being the same.  Symmetrical arc move on even lanes much like the Pain not as skid/flippy as most Doom's are. I'd try to lay it out so there would be some difference between them for a different ball to go to so you could match up better.

I use a RG Saturn at 4000 abralon for the same kind of look as an Absolute Power.
