WCP being D/C? What to get instead...
« on: June 05, 2007, 08:49:04 AM »
While I know there are plenty out there on the internet, I'm bowling in a have a ball league, where I get the ball of my choice.  Originally, I was going to get a 2nd WCP, and have it drilled for length, (my first one is drilled label) but the owner (a teammate of mine) said when he went to order it, his distributor didn't have any, and they didn't think any more were going to be produced.  So this means, I need to pick a new ball from that league.

Currently I have a Terminator, WCP, WCR, Satisfaxion, and Straight Flush, all drilled label except the WCR which is drilled for length.  I'm looking for a medium/heavy ball to give me more length than the WCP, but predictable on the backend.  Since the BP doesn't go as long as the WCP, am I correct in assuming that if drilled for length, it would almost make it the same ball as my WCP drilled label?  If so, it's probably not what I'm looking for.  Suggestions??

Big bang or Black Pearl will both fit in, both are very good and respond well to pin over finger line drillings.

By definition, that's the Big Bang.

If "BP" stand for Black Pearl, it WILL go longer than the WC (particle) under every circumstance that I can think of, given their being used with their stock finish. If it doesn't, there's something DESPERATELY wrong with either ball.

The BP will go longer than the WC, the BB, and the Terminator, WHEN all 4 are in their stock out-of-the-box finish.

The BB is the ball you're describing. It goes longer than the WC and handles the same amount of oil, when drilled the same and thrown by the same bowler.

Charlest, maybe I'm misreading Legends website, but it gives the BP (Black Pearl) a length rating of 44, and the WCP 49.  Which is why I was thinking the BP may be too similar to the WCP.  The Terminator had a rating of 41, and the Big Bang 52.  Maybe the Big Bang is the way to go, but if the Black Pearl does actually go longer, it would help since I don't have much in the way of pearlized equipment.

I can't tell you about the numbers on the website. I posted what I did based strictly on the BP and the two WC I had. Don't know if others would agree or disagree with me. But what I told you is what I saw.

Be cautious about taking any manufacturer's numbers (other than core specifications) as law, or as specifically applicable to your release, your drillings and your oil patterns. I believe they are just general guidelines.

Also remember the BP is a polished pearl particle, while the WC is a "sheen" finished solid particle.

Big Bang with pin up is the perfect choice or the Black Pearl would be more jumpy on the backend still both longer than the wcp.

Big Bang is more arcy and the BP can get jumpy for me sometimes, another option would be a terminator with a pin high 5 x 5 with 2000 and high gloss polish. But that would be boring considering you have this ball already and it is fun to try different stuff out.

thanks everybody, the info is much appreciated, right now I'm leaning towards the Big Bang, which means they discontinue it as soon as I place my order.

apparently, the Big Bang is being D/C also

I really hate the ball of the month mentality of the ball companies.  All of these balls are darn good products for the next several years, any newer products might be 1 or 2% better if that.

Hopefully the distributor will have a few of these available, but does anybody know whats on tap to replace them??

Just got a reply from Galen Gentry at LEGENDS regarding what has and what HAS NOT be discontinued; below is a "cut and paste" from his reply to my email:

"Robb,
 The latest 4 balls to be discontinued are the NS2, AP2, Masterpiece, Yeah Baby;
The WCP and Big Bang are STILL in production.

Feel free to update the roomies "

Thanks,
Galen

Thanks for the update on the D/C, several websites listed them as D/C'd (buddies and others) so that's why I thought they were.  Thanks again -- JD
