terminator question -update
« on: December 29, 2006, 04:20:23 AM »
got one in a deal and it has no games on it.  it is drilled pin above ring cg out with a wt hole close to my pap (4 7/8 over and 1/2 in up)

threw it on a ths last nite and had some issues.  the ball hooked way less than I thought it would or how the ads read on it.  when in the oil, it literally would do no thing, it would only move a little if hitting some dry.  even then I had to be pretty straightup otherwise it would skid like mad. The ball gave me no play room at all.  The middle oil is pretty heavy in this house but I took out my radar lock (drilled very similar) and the lock made the terminator look like a white dot! the lock was hooking at least 10 boards more.  The terminator is OOB and that may be my problem.  read some reviews and read some posts about this ball being squirrley in oob.  any ideas on what grit I should take the polish off with?? I am thinking initally trying 2000 grit abralon for starters.  any thoughts on this or this ball.

Doug,
Was it drilled with that layout when you got it, or NIB and you had it drilled ?? TW and pin ??? If NIB, who chose that layout (not saying that it's bad ... just curious).
Regarding the cover ... although it supposedly can handle some oil OOB, I've heard that a heavier volume of oil may require "knocking the polish off"; the grit underneath is 800 gary pad, so I'd start there and work your way up from there.
Call to Galen at Legends (1-888-526-3645) or Pat Duggan at BowlingBallMall (405 282-2695) may help too. Keep me posted, please ...

I had the same thoughts as you on the Terminator when I first threw it OOB.  I resurfaced it with a burgundy Scotchbrite pad and it became much more aggresive.

This was at Galen's suggestion when I asked about drilling it.  He said that in heavier oils I would have to knock the polish off.  Definitely contact Lanemasters  for some suggestions, as Laybzz74 said, they are more than happy to help.

We have two high speed, high revvers both order one, both complained about not enough midlane so we scuffed up the surface then polished and both have shot some nice numbers. We haven't seen huge movement out of the ball on the backend but didn't anticipate it being a medium particle load.

update: subbed in a mix league tonite (different house same type of shot) and brought the terminator with me.  threw it in warmups in oob and got the same squirelly reactions.  OK I thought, where's the green scotchbrite.  did a real lite run over it not pressing hard just enough to take the shine off.  my god, it was like a I found a new ball.  strong arc that was very predictable.  never a hint of carrydown effect in 3 gmaes.  carry was sick.  serious pin mangling, people were wondering what the heck I was throwing.  ended up 716 with one bonehead open.  for me the terminator is gonna be just fine for the right condition.  great rollin ball

Cool, Doug !!! Welcome to the "Legion" !!!

BTW, I'm having success with the new Big R Bang too now ... AFTER I hit the cover with a coat of Legends Extended Length polish; this ball and the cover are SICK/STRONG !!! More posts and threads on it later ...
