Drilled identically, do these two balls over lap?

No, not even close. The XD is a much more aggressive ball.

I think you may experience this in their OOB finishes, the BD comes highly polished while the Extreme comes in at a no polished semi sheen finish.

I feel both at the same surface and same drill you would see more oil capability out of the BD, stronger core, and it is solide reactive with medium load diamond particles, the Extreme is a medium load pearl particle.

Other would have to chme on this since i don't have them, (do have a BD on the way though)

I own both balls. Both currently have a high polish finish and the XD is still much stronger then the BD. The BD has a long angular ball motion where the XD is pretty much a continious arching path to the pocket. Both balls are drilled stacked. From my experience the XD is a good 6 to 8 boards stronger than the BD.

I also have both polished and stacked for maximum length. I think both could be used for higher volumes of oil, at least for the high rev bowlers. The only way I can think to describe the BD reaction would be a strong arc. It doesn't get quit the length that my XD gets, but I don't think there's much out that does. My XD is extremely angular off the break point. If there's a long pattern, say 40+ feet, I usely go with the XD for a game in a half, but once the carrydown is evident out comes the BD. Even though some might stick with the XD, it gets a little squirty for me.

I have both and they are drilled identical, 4 / 4 off my pap.  The Black Diamond hooks earlier and has a smooth strong arc, the Xtreme is longer and more angular in the back end.  When the lanes break down, I use the Xtreme, when there's enough oil, I tend to use the Black Diamond, due to it's dependability.  I don't like flippy balls with heavy oil and or carry down.

IMO, they would not overlap. I've found they can be used on the same lane condition but with distinctive ball motions. For me they compliment each other.

I have both balls laid out 45 X 3 3/4 X 45. The XD has a small P2 hole. The XD has a light coat of Trizact polish over the box finish. The BD is at 1000 abralon plus two light coats of B High Gloss polish. The BD has a very hard arc, the XD goes longer and is more angular off the friction.
