Should I or shouldn't I?
« on: November 26, 2009, 11:55:47 AM »
I've been given the opportunity to purchase an undrilled 15lb Masterpiece at a discounted price. As a UK bowler this is very tempting because(unfortunately) the older legends balls are becoming scarcer here by the minute.

What's the consensus on the MP?  The core and coverstock combination seem to be at the heart of what they were trying to achieve with a non-particle ball. To be honest I just need someone to say that I would be stupid not to go for it. The only contemporary equivalent seems to be the Black Pearl reactive, which I would also like to own if Santa ever lived up to his promises.

I would definitely pick it up.  I had the opportunity to pick one up this past summer NIB and wasn't going to pass up the price of $125.00.  I have yet to drill it as I already have one drilled.

The Masterpiece can cover a wide spectrum of lane conditions except for the extremes.

Pat - those were the words I was waiting for!

The same applies to a Counter Strike.  Not the same I know but still likely to become very hard to come by here.  Have you any experience of the CS?  I know the Bowlers Journal rated it highly (as they should do of course)

I did own a Counter Strike briefly, but I got rid of it because it overlapped with a World Class Particle Pearl I had at the time.  Overall, the Counter Strike was a very good ball for me.   I couple of guys in the house I bowl at are still throwing them and scoring well.

I have both, a MP that's been Rico'ed, and a pin over bridge CS.  The CS is in my current rotation, and it does a very good job for the lane conditions I see.  I have mine shined up a bit to make it more useful on lighter conditions tho.  You cannot go wrong with either one, and expecially if you don't like the MP, I'll pay for shipping so you can get it to me.

Many thanks guys - the deal has been done.

I was thinking of having it drilled stacked leverage as with my big bang & dynamic power. I'm looking for an earlier rather than a late break point - where do you think I should have the pin? I was thinking just above the ring finger.

If you want an earlier break point, perhaps in the ring finger or slightly below.  Would depend on how strong your normal swing is though.
