u might be saying, "well that doesnt make any sence. why would you u take a heavier load particle ball and ruin it by spinnin it up to 4000"? ok, i have 6, soon to be 7, lane masters / legends bowling balls (see profile). the one ball i feel is totally sitting around and being wasted is my yeah baby. i dont see nearly enough oil to use it in OOB finish, and putting some surface on it would just make it like my NS2 and putting polish on OOB finish just made it way too snappy. im hoping with the 4000 grit i will achieve the arcing roll im looking for. im waiting on the pads to come in. i think the core in this ball is just awesome. im just gonna mess around and try it. if anyone else already has please let me know how it worked. i will post my results probley late next week.

FYI as far as I have seen (I do have a "couple" of Legends balls), sanded to 2000 grit makes the diamond particle balls stronger (handles more oil) and earlier than the stock "sheen" finish (light application of the SB grey pad on top of a high gloss polish). So 4000 grit is just slightly more even and only slightly longer than the stock finish.

I have done this to the Kong, Big Kahnua, New Standard, New Standard 2 and the Yeah Baby. It makes them slightly more controllable and more evn rectiong. Still able to handle plenty of oil, expecially the YB and the NS2.

I used my 4000 grit Big Kahuna on the fresh oil at Nationals. It was still too strong.

thanks, thats be more of what im lookin for. i have my yeah baby drill pin above bridge cg kicked out 45 degrees left (im right handed). more then have the balls i have are drilled off the lanemasters sheet using the "weak" layout for low track players, but im not getting the smooth, "low hooking" action promised. i throw at 14 mph so that really is why they take off on the backend. im workin on building my speed up, but still being smooth with my form and balanced at the line.

I'm not criticizing here, but please realize that no one "promises" anything (im not getting the smooth, "low hooking" action promised.). the manufacturer generally describes the expected ball reaction for the average player. Sometimes, without specifying it, they describe the ball reaction for the "maximum" or very good bowler.

Your ball reaction will vary depending on how your releasse/delivery differs from the average with regards to ball speed, tilt, rev rate, rotation, etc.

The fact that the YB has a heavy load of particles should not make you believe it will act like every other "heavy load particle ball ever made". Balls are ALWAYS core + cover. The YB gets better than average length for a particle ball with a stronger backend reaction than "average", with average drillsfor your release. If you drill it outside the average or normal range, you can expect a different reaction.

A big part of that is the OOB surface. I think a big part of the bias against high-load particle balls is that of late, the majority of them come duller than my mother-in-law. AMB Particle, Granite Gargoyle, both 320-grit. Mammoth and Goliath, both 400-grit. The Super Carbide Bomb and SwamP Monster were both, what? 35u? That's in the 400-grit range. Track put out a few high-load particles, the GP2, Phenom, and Animal and they had a little finer finish, but not much.

Looking at that, it's easy to see why high-loads have the reputation they have. Hard to get length and backend out of anything at 400-grit, ya know?

But I love my Yeah Baby. Both it and the NS2 came a little shinier OOB than most other high-loads. Take 'em down to 400-grit like the others and I believe you'll get that same early-rolling, burning up reaction that people usually expect.

I know you have yours polished, but I've found that even at 2000 grit, these diamond particles are earlier and more hooking than they are at their stock finish, which is basically a lightly hazed, high gloss polish. These are usefull balls, but they still need oil.

the things is my yeah baby actings like my 5 inch pin storm agent i used to have. its got good length because i polished it up, but the backend is a complete v shaped 75 degree hook. im gonna try couple of things. thanks for the input.

Oh, definitely. If the backends start to dry out or the heads start to go, it's back in the bag, replaced usually with my polished Thing Lives. I haven't used it on wood lanes yet, I suspect that it won't really be an option.

Here is one that I have currently in my arsenal ... I LOVE it for a "roll up" shot up first arrow and it also works well on light conditions to "open the lane" up:

4 1/4" pin, pin above bridge and on the gripline,
cg on midline & 1" right of GL, 4000 abralon w/Extended Length polish
