Yeah Baby on Carry Down

Anybody tried using their YB at a surface with polish over the OOB surface to get thru semi toasty heads with carry down?  I'm kinda figuring it would be a bit like a pearl particle in that the polish would get it thru the heads with the particle helping in the backend.  

Not looking to add a ball right now so the YB is sitting there looking to get used.  

Anybody tried this?  Results?

I used my YB with a light polish on top of the box finish and really liked it.  The high particle load pretty much means you'll ignore carrydown.  If the heads are not oily enough, though, if they're really getting into "semi toasty" condition, I think you'll have a hard time preventing it from burning up.  The more polish you use to get through drier heads, the less well it will work in carrydown.

But I don't have a lot of hand, I'm speed dominant.  If you have a little more revs and there's still some head oil left, I think the YB with a little polish will cut through the carrydown like nobody's business.

Thanks shelley.  I am rev dominant and can play inside pretty well so catching some head oil shouldn't be a problem.  This is on bit older wood where the track is blown up by a 4 lady league in front of us with a pretty good puddle in the middle to start.  Ladies w/ plastic push the oil down by our 3rd game the carry down can be significant.  

I'll try some Legends polish over the OOB YB and try it.

I think the answer is - it depends: on how much polish you use, what your rev rate/ball speed ratio is, how much crrydown there is and how you throw the ball (lots of rotation or more end-over-end.

I have polished a few of Legends partice balls and they conquered quite a bt of carrydown, but then I am also rev dominant.

My polished Legends solid favorites are the NS, NS2 and the Big Kahuna. Haven't tried the YB polished.

I thought about using the YB over my NS2 because the YB is set up a bit weaker 4 1/2" pin to PAP rather than 4" pin to PAP and stacked.  

I hear ya on the amount of polish.  I'd like to try this rather than purchasing a Mystic or Sidewinder.  I think it might work...we'll see.  

There is a bit of hang on the outside so it's kind of iffy to get it outside to find friction to go around the carry down.

Not a bad idea. the polished solid will handle more carrydown than a particle pearl, of course, but then it won;t flip as hard at the breakpoint. That COULD result in less carry power but also in much fewer splits and washouts.

That's where the balance of polish and surface come into play. Pick your poison. I'd start with as little polish as possible to clear the heads, then increase polish up to the point where you have too much skid and too little ability to handle the carrydown. Then resand and re-polish to the previous point. I don't usually recommend this sequence (I'd rather stop short of going too far.), but I know you're experienced enough to do it.
